Has anyone got any advice for when small children get invited to joint Birthday Parties?

My DD got invited to one earlier this year, the invite was from a girl and boy. She didn't know the girl. So I just got her a token present ( a small teddy) and boy a present for about £10. Would this be the correct thing to do?

Also what if the invite is from more than 2 children? Her friend is having a party with her brother and 2 others. Do I need to buy a present for everyone on the invite. Or just the one she knows?

Thanks in advance for your help

Donna

I would only buy a gift for the children you know. I've have done a joint sibling party but only put both names on the invite if the child knew both of my children.

I'd only buy for the child/children your daughter knows.

If I was expected to buy four presents, I'd find something else for my child to do that day and miss the party.

This used to drive me nuts when mine were young enough to attend birthday parties! Your child gets to attend 1 birthday party but you get to fund 2/3/4 birthday presents!!

I totally understand that parents club together to reduce the costs but really think they should split the invites out too. Eg if Bill is having a joint party with Jane and Sam,an invite should read 'Bill invites .... to his party with Jane and Sam', and then you should just buy a present for Bill. Jane and Sam do the same. In your case OP I think buying for just the child she knows.

Well she did get the invite for the party with 4 children but the invite was just from the one she knows, It seems that Mummy had thought about things and has even put my babies name on the invite too :)

Token gifts are fine, and indeed a nice touch.
