Getting rid of Second Box

Options
currently pay extra for second Virgin box in kitchen. It's used for watching sport mainly. But its £10 per month. Can i get rid of it, but still watch sports subscriptions via my virgin service? or would i need to do something like apple tv/chromecast and then not get virgin subscribed service?
Help/ advice please!

Lots of ways to view a vm box aroind the house.

    So in increasing cost...

You have the coax lead going to the kitchen Virgin box.

You could use this to run a feed from the main box via an rf modulator to view that box in the kitchen in sd.
Or use it with a HDMI via coax system to view in HD.

Or simply install a HD wireless sender / receiver.
  • many thanks
i presume both suggested systems (coax or wireless) mean you have to watch the same programmes on both tvs?

If you have a TV aerial then you can watch free view in either room as well as the vm.
But yes only one box means only one vm channel.

Not sure if VM have an equivilent of Sky's 'Sky Go', where you can register a couple of devices to watch your TV package on line, they advertise it as being able to watch the TV you pay for while away from home, but obviously you could use it while at home too, if they do, then , as you say , with a chrome cast or similar, you could register say an IPad , watch whatever you want on that , and cast it to the TV in the kitchen, and stop paying for a second VM box, Chromecast is about £30 (the last time I looked) so would pay for itself in 3 months.
With Sky I think you get to register 2 devices as part of the basic TV package but have to pay more if you want more that 2 devices to use the service.
I presume if VM have a similar service it also may restrict the number of devices.
A friend as a daughter at Uni, and she watches the 'home' TV pack at her student digs, as her 'device' is one of the registered devices on his 'Sky Go' account.
  • good idea
VM do allow a certain amount of progs to be watched on other devices , so a chromecast or similar could work well

Just check compatibility issues. I know I can't "AirPlay" Sky Go to my Apple TV because of licensing regulations, I'm guessing so Sky can avoid situations exactly like this and ditching second boxes or using their mates logins to watch Sky on their own TV.
