Virgin - Sneaky 30 day notice to remove Sky Sports from package

Hi
Just a wee heads up on what happened to me yesterday when I tried to remove Sky Sports from my Virgin package.
Usually (at the end of every football season) I do this and it just involved pressing the relevant buttons on the handset to confirm details of account, package to be removed, etc.
But yesterday after I had completed that I was informed that to complete the cancellation I would have to stay on line and speak to a customer service advisor.
After a ten minute wait the advisor came on and I go through the whole cancellation routine again, after which he told me that Sky Sports was now subject to a 30 day cancellation notice period. In other words I was going to have to pay another month for a service I no longer required.
I informed him that I had received no notification of that change to me package and he responded by saying he would talk to his manager.
After another couple of minutes he came back on and agreed to cancel the package immediately and refund what was owed to me from this months payment.
It seemed to me that they are chancing their arm on this one and hoping that people will just agree to pay an extra month - just be aware and question it ...

It's in the terms now (don't know how long for though), but as you say they can't enforce a change on you without you being aware. Something for people to watch out for going forward as they will now expect 30 days notice for any changes to reduce a package. If you wish to reduce your tier of service or remove any additional service (including premium television channels) you must give us 30 days' notice and pay any charges (including usage charges and line rental) up to the end of that 30-day notice period.
Edit:
Interestingly, that term appeared somewhere between August 2014 and February 2015, so has been in effect for at least 15 months. Could be Virgin are actually now enforcing it?0
