in the end i HAD to pay an electrician, which again put us out of pocket for what they did. As for the locks being changed it is only recently we found out we legally could do so.0

as it is ILLEGAL for the property to be uninhabitable
There is no law that says a property has to be inhabitable because there is no legal definition of uninhabitable. There are many properties in the UK which could be considered uninhabitable, but only in certain circumstances would a council force the owner to bring the property into a habitable condition.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
So lets start again. You admit that you were in arrears on the rent by 2 months. So instead of agreeing with the landlord to make payments to reduce these arrears in order to keep your home you accused him of cutting off your electricity supply is this right? You then rang the council who is not your electricity supplier to ask them to find an electrician for you to reconnect your supply but the council is not your landlord or your electricity supplier so what did you expect them to do?
Hang on a minute... So im accussing them of cutting the electrics, the fact the next day we receive a handwritten letter saying we believe you have vacated the property... does not seem strange to you?? We got in touch with our energy suppliers and they told us the landlord need to rectify the issue... We have photo evidence of what they have done. So no it isnt just accusations.. I have a key, my partner does and the landlord does... Like i said if we just wanted to p around and stay in arrears why would WE disconnect our electric we would just continue to live there??? They have a motive to do so because we was in arrears. Also the reason my rent was in arrears because my brother had passed away and i had to help pay funeral costs... I spoke to the landlord and explained, he understood and we was making the arrangement to pay him when my cheque cleared... so as for ignoring the situation, i didnt.

Why should i pay an electrician for what they did.... when it is their respnsibility to make the home livable. The fact they leave tenants without utilities when it is all electric. We had ben in touch with the police as well as the housing officers, and environmental health each said we have to give landlord reasonable time to rectify the issue. They had numerous chances arranged by us or the council which they refused to do so. They lied to us on many occasions, saying the electricianfound no fault, then another time they wanted us present to pay for the repair... but if there is no fault what repair are we paying for???
Because in law you must mitigate your losses.

You still haven't proved that the "they" that cut off the electricity supply was the landlord. Someone shut off the electricity supply to my mother's house so that they could break in without the alarm going off. She owned her house. If the neighbour saw who it was you have to be very sure that it was either the landlord or someone connected to the landlord before you make accusations.0

There was no damage to suggest a break in, The neighbour witnessed the landlord and electrician entering my property with no one else there, so yes he may not of seen them actually disconnect the electrics. BUT the day we return from work then the electrics are off. So again seems quite suspicious.0

The funeral isn't a reason not to pay rent.
What you did was to" borrow" money from your landlord to pay for the funeral. Why should your landlord lend you money to pay for a funeral? What you should have done was to borrow money from someone who is in the business of lending money not someone who is in the business of renting houses.0 -
If the LL cut off the electricity and if, on the balance of probabilities, you can show this to a court, you may be entitled to claim for illegal eviction.
However, as the electricity was eventually repaired and you then returned to the property, and you did not mitigate your losses. Your claim would probably not be as successful as other headline cases.0
