Tesco ruined my coat

I was at Tesco yesterday and wanted butter baby potatoes. There wasn't many left and I had to stretch to the back of the shelf to get a packet. It was then I discovered the entire shelf was covered in the butter. I got it on my hand and on the sleeve of my coat. I put my coat on for wash as soon as I got home but it hasn't come out. I've tried hand washing it and putting it in for wash again and though it has faded it is still obviously visible.
And I only bought this coat two weeks ago

So did you report the damage to Tesco whilst you were there and allow them the chance to remedy ?
If not it's a bit harsh coming on here afterwards blaming Tesco whilst they had no right of reply at the time0 -
You should have seen someone in the store when it happened.
I had a jumper ripped at a Asda checkout - it got caught on a bit sticking out and they asked me how much did I pay for it - it was £20 and they said to buy anything I wanted in replacement - anywhere, not just George clothing. Come back with the clothing receipt and they will refund it and then gave me a £5 gift card.
A couple of years ago, my Mum bought some milk in Sainsburys which went everywhere in the boot. Sainsburys paid for a valet as the milk and the smell goes everywhere.
Hopefully, Tesco have CCTV in the area and if you were recorded getting the potatoes, you should be ok. If not, there is no proof. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Get a foodstuff on clothing, complain and find it washes out at home = get criticised for wasting the time of staff
Get a foodstuff on clothing, don't complain and try to wash it first = get criticised for not telling the store at the time.0 -

I didn't know stores would do that. A few years ago my mum got tomato sauce on her white jumper and did complain and all she got back was 'Sorry about that' and member of staff removed leaky sauce bottle from shelf. Funny, this was the same Tesco.
I guess it depends on who you speak to.0 -
i'm sorry for your loss.0

Butter is fat so ordinary washing powder wouldn't shift it.
Washing it with washing up liquid might have worked. You could try that now but I don't know if it will work after already being washed.

De-Solv-it Universal stain remover, I've yet to find a stain it will not remove and it does not harm your clothes. Cannot recommend it highly enough
Most supermarkets etc stock it, or its on amazon:
