I can't believe people are having problems with this system?. I drive rental cars for work and they are all new cars and they all have this capless fuel system. Mostly they are cars such as the Ford Focus and I have never had any trouble filling them up. When I first drove a car like it i had never seen the system before but used it fine without any videos or pictures.

Are you sure your not just over thinking it and complicating it by considering different angles to put it in at?

Same system is fitted to Jags.

I had one occasion when it wouldn't come out without some jiggling on my high miler.

Never had an issue with any other vehicle fitted with it that were all low mileage vehicle belonging to Jaguar UK.

I think heavy handed use might be part of the issue. And obviously wear and tear must also be present on older high mileage vehicles.

I watched some of those videos and the issue with one was he was letting the pump handle hang down and was getting constant clicking, if he lifted it up he would have found it would have worked fine.

And the second one I watched was due to an American pump handle manufacturer changing the design of the nozzle.

This system was on Dragons Den if I remember correctly and Ford either bought the patent or use it under licence.

And those forum links are from US Forums.

And Americans would moan that the sun was too hot or water too wet and are likely wanting to sue for huge punitive damages anyway.

I wouldn't necessarily worry about buying a CAT C or D car - many people buy, own & run them without ever knowing. Properly repaired, and sometimes the damage is incredibly minor, you shouldn't have a problem. The only issue is that if you should ever make an insurance claim, your insurer will pay out only 50 - 60% of the 'normal' value of an undamaged car (around 75% for a CAT D), so you unless it's virtually half the price of an equivalent, undamaged vehicle, or it's a very cheap car and you're not worried about potentially losing your money in the event of a claim, it probably isn't a good choice.
I had a Vectra which had been a CAT C write off at six weeks old due to very minor front end damage (wing & bumper only), it was then very slightly scraped down the front wing at nine years old whilst parked, merely needed a wing & paint, and my insurer wrote it off: They valued it at £2,140 and I received a cheque for £1,200. They bizarrely gave me a brand new hire car for three months, paying £58 per day without a problem....
