Getting it insured is the hard bit, remember insurance will be responsible for injuries of occupants if its hit again, most say no to cat C and those that do often insist on a full inspection.

sorry, disagree, the insurance companies quite clearly state that the vehicle can be repaired and returned to the road, i have only ever found one insurance company out of the many hundreds who will not insure a categorized vehicle, there are literally thousands of written off cars out there [ 550,000 in 2010 year], as for "full inspection" some insurance companies may ask for a car over 3 years old to simply have a fresh mot, to say that most insurance companies will not reinsure written off cars is simply scaremongering, and increase the ill informed rumour. By all means tell the insurance companies its a cat c or d, [ they know already] but dont try to claim full value in a claim, simply insure it value what you paid, no more, no less. There simply isnt enough engineers in this country to inspect every car thats wrote off anyway.

Problem is that a new car could be massively damaged but not enough to write off so will be unrecorded and you'll never know about the damage.
An older car might have dented door or bonnet that writes it off and is recorded cat D or C. Which would you prefer to have?

So I think it really depends on the age of the car and if you know what was repaired.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

well it fits the description, cat c/d is a write off. why would an insurance company mark it as a write off after fixing it to factory standard?

One warning about Cat C/D - I think I read somewhere that the government have done away with the need for a certificate/test in order to get them back on the road.

    Is that right?

I don't understand your question. I didn't say they would fix it?

My problem is getting the nozzle out, always stuck and needs a good pull, e.g this morning I thought lets get it right, pushed in slowly, press fuel handle, nothing, push in a little bit further and nothing, push little bit further and works (not all the way in to the end. Comes to taking out nozzle and surprise surprise it's not easy to pull back back out, had enough.

May part ex though as with private buyer (even thought get more for it) I don't want them coming back to me.

I can't believe people are having problems with this system?. I drive rental cars for work and they are all new cars and they all have this capless fuel system. Mostly they are cars such as the Ford Focus and I have never had any trouble filling them up. When I first drove a car like it i had never seen the system before but used it fine without any videos or pictures.

Are you sure your not just over thinking it and complicating it by considering different angles to put it in at?

Cat C cars used to need a "VIC Test", but this was only a Vehicle Identity Check. Not sure if thats still required.

What is most disturbing is that you can buy a 2014 "Cat C" write off, repair it, put it back on the road and it wont even need a mechanical check or MOT

I didn't know anything about it, bought privately, on way home needed filling, nozzle in then trying take out nozzle it was stuck - I had to really pull to get it out.

Second time when I got home I filled up a week later, thought nothing of it and again same problem tying to get it out. Ever since always same problem.

Unsure whether to take it to a Ford dealer to have it checked out in case previous owner did something.

I am sure that has been dropped aswell.

The government realised that "ringers" don't really exist anymore.
