in Loans
I'm sitting here with steam coming out of my ears.... one upon a time, when applying for a loan one spoke to the branch manager and, dependent upon one's circumstances, your case was considered. Not any more, sad to say, because now you get some young person in an office somewhere reading from a script and if you don't fit into their little boxes - forget it!
Over 15 years ago I opened an RBS account and for the past 15 years I conducted that account in, what THEY told me, was an exemplary fashion. Our relationship even went as far as me giving them advice regarding staff training and they not only paid me a 500.00 consultancy fee, but offered me an interest free overdraft (which I never used).
As we all know, they took over Natwest and my account was transferred to them.
Now..... I needed a loan last week to help buy a new car - it was only for 7,500 as I have the rest. I went to the local branch where my account now resides and I saw a personal bank advisor and we went through the motion of an application and, in the initial stages, a soft search. I passed their "affordability" test so we proceeded with the application. They then rejected my application basically because I was a "new customer".
This, it seems, is the way they view their customers nowadays. "New Customer" my backside.. It's nor my fault they moved my account!
Cor, I'm not half angry!!!!! (I can't find a suitable "angry" icon to put here!)

Try Zopa, or Sainsbury or one of many other cheaper lenders out there.
By the way, it's well over 15 years since the branch manager had any say in an unsecured lending decision with most banks.0 -
As you have found out, loyalty doesn't exist any more and hasn't for a number of years.
As has been suggested look for a better rate elsewhere.I am a LandLord,(under review) so there!:p0 -
Many people take out loans with lenders they have no existing relationship with. I'd suggest asking again for clarification on why you were rejected. It would also be worth checking your credit report for anything unexpected.0

Sigh. Another "don't they know who I am?!" thread.0

no it's not about that, it's about applying at a place you have paid your good hard earned money to for a number of years. who have probably made double off money off your hard earned money.
the op has a valid point good customer service goes along way and it has been lost in the UK.
Banks should not treat people like a drain on them, we fund them and as such they should treat us "the customer" with exemplary standards you expect.
instead we do get an automated system which is flawed and used as a blackmail tool against us.
OP id lead with my feet and change bank.0 -
I hate the MSE attitude problem, I've noticed it alot lately how you all get high and mighty.
I'd dare to say you've probably gone through the same process.
been baffled as to why have I been declined??
it's a debt forum and people want advice not sarcastic retorts.0 -

Unlike many other countries we get free banking, direct debits, money out the hole in the wall, etc etc. The money made from Joe Bloggs current account is tiny; profit comes mainly from business accounts. Since the advent of faster payments they also don't have interest on holding periods coming in.
How dare they make a profit on top. It's like they are a business or something!

Banks make £billions off customer loyalty.
Customers can pocket that money for themselves by tarting themselves out for a better service and / or price.0
