Discouraging bad posts and posters

Blue_Max

When I get an email I go to read the post.
Sometimes it is useless, nasty and provocating.
May be that's what such people intend.
They are a waste of time and space.
These posts also help to bump up their 'Posts on the Forum' figure.
It s quality that matters and not quantity.
There is a facility to thank a post.
Is it possible for MSE to add a facility to add an 'ignore button' to block out a poster?
If a number that show how many people ignore a poster is shown below their name, it might even make them think twice before posting.
This info could be shown under the "Thanked xx Times in xx Posts"
Quality of the MSE Forum will vastly be improved.

Very profound, thank you.
Or was
That
a poem?Not even wrong0 -
You can ignore a user, but only you can see the info. I'm not sure that having public ignorings would help, it would just be another mechanism for bullying.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

I agree that the nasty members of the forum would abuse the ignore feature as a mechanism for bullying. The 'thanks' feature will go some way to counter that.
Anyways, having to read their offensive posts is becoming victims of bullying.
No system is perfect; but I hope that MSE would consider the pros and cons and make a balanced decision.0 -
But you don't have to read their posts if you use the current ignore function.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

You could always stop receiving emails, then you wouldn't have a prompt to read useless posts. I don't feel any compulsion to read or follow threads that don't interest me, I don't need any reminders. I come on the forum to sit down for a while in between other jobs, or have a read at mealtimes. If I forget to look at something it's no big deal.

Use the ignore button, turn off emails.0

Did not know about the 'ignore function' despite being an forum member for few years and having had to put up by the attacks by the inept.
So thanks and I will search to find out how to do this.
Not a solution but it does help!
Quote from a post. This poster was a lurker.
"They are like a pack of cackling, scavenging hyenas and they don't stop until they have picked away at every last bit of you. And as hyenas come in a pack it becomes relentless.
They will ignore anything positive you have posted only selecting, highlighting and quoting the few words that are not so positive.
I have had several PM this week from 'lurkers' eager to post but the thought of being tore down stops them posting...and as I have said this week for the continuing success and ultimate survival of these wonderful MSE Forums we need the lurkers to post."

If you read the thread that she's talking about then the full story is somewhat different to how she's portraying it in her complaining posts.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
They drive so many away and it looks like the only way to beat them is to take the game to them
dont be nasty like them be better! Can they be better than me?

Thanks everyone for advice and views
Haven't found that elusive 'ignore feature' button as yet. :search:
But when I do, I hope I will still continue to receive post from all other posters. :think:0 -

Click on "User Lists" and one option is "Add to ignore list".
It's a very useful feature :cool:0
