It's a once in a lifetime pilgrimage for most Muslims. With respect, I don't think the OP is looking for our opinion / advice on whether / when / how they should perform Hajj, just some practical advice about the school situation.

I agree and a little more respect from some posters wouldn't go amiss.

The crux of the matter is whether the individual school considers the Hajj 'exceptional circumstances' or not and the only way OP will find that out is to ask.

I can see that they like the idea of a family pilgrimage while the grandfather can go with them but I would take heed of the advice offered in the school policy quote as to whether Hajj is appropriate for a primary age child. Personally I'd go as an adult group and leave both children with the aunt.

Thanks again for all your replies.

We are trying for 16 days now going 3rd Sept and return back on 19th Sept. School won't start until 7th Sept so child will only miss school for 9/10 days. As all guidance says they can normally allow upto 2 weeks in exceptional circumstances.

I think the British Embassy in Riyadh have a Hajj Liaison Offiicer. Might be worth making your whereabouts known in case of any problems.

How does your 8 year old cope with high temperatures?

It will be in the high 30s at that time of year.
