So Co-op Installed SM2 for gas and electricity about 24 months ago. All worked fine until CO-Op was taken over by Octopus about 3 months after installation. Had to read manually until suddenly in Nov 2020 electricity meter started sending - until Feb 2021 then it stopped.
Switched to Octopus at end of May 2021. June 5th 2021 both SM2 meters were remotely read. Emailed Octopus applauding remote reading only to be told that signal strength may be a problem??????
Can anybody explain?0 -
If you go to the N3rgy.com website and use the ‘I am a consumer’ link you can see whether consumption data can be pulled from your meter. If consumption data is present, then the most likely reason that I can think of is that Octopus has failed to apply its security certificates to your meters. SMETS2 meters are highly secure and only one supplier can access your meters at any given time. To make sure that others are not sending out instructions to your meter etc, part of the switching process is to remove the old supplier’s certificates and replace them with new ones.PennyForThem_2 said:So Co-op Installed SM2 for gas and electricity about 24 months ago. Are you speaking to hello@octopus.energy or smart@octopus.energy? My advice would be to use the latter.1 -
Do you have any information on how Octopus' smart meter rollout is going? I registered for one a few months ago but haven't heard anything from them. They don't seem to be pushing customers to get one as much as the other suppliers.[Deleted User] said:
I confess that I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. A meter is a meter whether it is smart or not. The supplier switching process is the same for smart and non smart meters. Octopus has an exceptional smart meter team. Suppliers are now required to install SMETS2 meters that are independent of any particular supplier, and these meters will remain smart after a transfer of supply.Telegraph_Sam said:Judgement on smart meters has to include change of supplier / address hassle depending on how well organised the supplier(s) are or are not, as reported in numerous threads.0 -
They seem overwhelmed by customers pro-actively trying to get a smart meter installed to be pushing customers. Have you tried requesting via Twitter? That seems to be a way to queue jump, first thing in the morning is probably best as they only seem to book appointments a few weeks ahead. Note that they've been having issues with their system recently, so installations have been carried out, but meters could not be provisioned.Doshwaster said:

Has any of you statistical gurus constructed trend lines for leccy and gas wholesale prices (Lipman's presumably) and if so where are we now in relation to them?Telegraph Sam
There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know0 -
Thanks - I'm not that desperate to get one installed. One of the things I like about Octopus is that they aren't constantly hassling people to get a smart meter installed unlike some other suppliers.masonic said:

I recently arranged a smart meter to be installed for my mum to save her the bother of having to read the meters herself. She's very happy with it but it's quite unusual for her to have something more technically advanced than me.

As [Tracker] leccy prices continue their relentless move upwards I see that this has been over-compensated by gas taking a nose-dive by over 50%. I wonder if this is a repeat of the data input glitch that we experienced with electricity 9 days ago?Telegraph Sam

Any advance on this?

Depending on interpretation this seems to confirm that we are at present way above the trend line, but may be more sophisticated calculations are possible.Telegraph Sam

Could be a glitch - at the moment there is a price listed for electricity but not for gas on the tariffs page.Telegraph_Sam said:As [Tracker] leccy prices continue their relentless move upwards I see that this has been over-compensated by gas taking a nose-dive by over 50%. I see your forever optimism about tracker isn't waning sam!
I calculated todays gas price as closer to 3.86p, though i may be wrong. I suspect what you're seeing on the tracker graph is a mistake again for today.0
