It's not really new, the update was last April.

    Details are here - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/revenue-and-customs-brief-7-2015-new-rules-for-the-self-employed-claiming-working-tax-credit/revenue-and-customs-brief-7-2015-new-rules-for-the-self-employed-claiming-working-tax-credit

If only earning £100 per month then yes I would expect HMRC (that's who deals with TC, not DWP) to ask questions.

Artists are mentioned here - https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/claimant-compliance-manual/ccm6760

    yes sorry HMRC not dwp

I'm not sure really what to do, if they stop my WTC i'll have to go unemployed until i can find a job. which surely is counter productive.

How many hours are you working per week?

Are you looking for other work?

Darksparkle - i work full time, it can take hours to make a painting which may or may not sell, then sometimes they only go for £1 on ebay. I've also set up a shop on Etsy where i charge more - but the paintings take longer to sell. I also have lots of web stuff to do which is very time consuming (scanning, photoshop work, website updating, listing)

    Celifein - thanks

So how many paintings do you do compared to the number you sell.

You need to do work in expectation of payment, that means it must be more than a mere hope.

i sell a lot, around 240 over the last year. Selling things on-line unless they are commissioned are always with hope. i usually complete 7 paintings a week

This is why i've been trying to sell more on Etsy than Ebay - people look for bargains on ebay but not so much on Etsy. But ebay has more users.

Do yourself a favour and start looking for a job. If after a year you're only earning £100 a month ( £23 a week ) it isn't working out.

If you're selling through ebay you need to set a reserve amount, or a buy it now amount. There's no point in selling something so significantly below cost.

TBH I don't think ebay is the right place for selling art anyway.
