Did it say why you are not entitled to JSA? I think you should apply anyway if you are available for work.

As pmlindyloo said it's an overlapping benefit with my WPA I think. Will look into it though

WPA is an overlapping benefit with contribution based JSA ( wasn't aware that you had less than £16000 in savings)

However, if you were entitled to income based JSA then the WPA would be counted as income with a £10 a week disregard so you would still not be eligible.

Perhaps a trip to CAB might be in order to check your benefit entitlement in case we have forgotten something. They could certainly help with the tax credits claim as if both your children are in full time education you should get a fair amount in child tax credits each week as savings (except for over £300 in interest earned from savings) isn't taken into account.

    Right, here we go,
Letter received this morning, I am being awarded CTC, that's the good news, bad news,
1 - they want back what I was paid last year, no problem I understand but wish they never paid me it in the first place. So repayment will be taken out of my award.
2 - After telling them I was now out of work they have still noted that I work 42 hours per week & awarded working tax credit. Been in touch & informed them of this error.
So good newS really, just await the final award & I realise as soon as I start work I'll get in touch with them STRAIGHT AWAY.

I thought you said that you were not awarded child tax credits last year as your earnings were too high?

Nope, not me, I was getting them, didn't even apply for them but told them my salary had increased, they then stopped them and now want back what they paid.
I understand this, it's just the fact they gave me them in the first place without even applying.
I wasn't in the right frame of mind at the time to argue/ask the question.

Tax credits cannot be awarded without an application form being completed. Otherwise they'd have no idea of your circumstances.

Well I got them without applying, somehow they knew my previous years earnings, I didn't even know how much I earned.

So you've never completed the application form? Could someone have done it for you and got you to sign it?

Example of what it looks like in their notes
