recommended Home insurance?

Options
Hi,

I have been with HSBC home insurance for two years. They are very good, I am currently thinking to claim for a professional flash that I recently broke, and I have been told I could cash in without further proof or investigation (I never claimed before).
Problem is that, even without claiming, the new premium is 50% more than the previous year, so I decided to change.
I have already opened a new contract with Admiral, which will start this June, but I recently read not very nice things about them.
Should I stick with them or already look for another company since I am in time? Could you suggest a good one?

cheapest for the required level of cover imo.
have you tried a comparison site and going through the usual direct line / aviva etc for quotes?

Cheapest is the reason I went with Admiral (using gocompare), the problem is, does make sense to go for the cheapest if then I have problems claiming?

What's a professional flash? Is it used for business purposes?

Have you told HSBC or Admiral about this loss?

I'd like to know if you think Admiral is a good insurance company or I could have problems claiming if I need to. I brought the example of the camera flash, just because I have 0 problems with HSBC, which I have to leave just because it got too expensive.

Maybe your claim was why your policy went up. I hope you informed Admiral of the claim as you are required to do otherwise you might not have any effective cover.

As you have already taken out Admiral insurance then if you are happy with the terms, you may as well stay with them, at least for this year because whatever people say they will have to meet any valid claim, even if it takes you a bit more effort. There are worse companies out there.

I didn't claim yet, I asked for information and they told me that I can cash in whenever I want, but I decided to think about it a little longer. So far I don't see any reason to not claim, even with a claim, the new insurance will cost less than the new HSBC fee.
I guess if I decide to claim, I have to call Admiral to communicate the accident e negotiate a new fee, is that right?

When you asked HSBC for information about this potential claim, they would have registered this on their system. This is why your premium went up with HSBC. You also need to tell Admiral about the information you told to HSBC about the potential claim, as it will be on the insurance database now, and it's classed as a non disclosure. When Admiral find out, they will either ask for more premium, or cancel your insurance.

I called HSBC way after I got my new fee quote, in fact, I already bought the Admiral insurance before to call HSBC. Also, sorry, but where did you read that a "potential claim" increases the premium fee?

By phoning HSBC, you have notified them of a potential claim. They may have recorded that against your policy. If neither HSBC nor Admiral knew about the potential claim, neither renewal quote may be valid.

ok, the fact that a potential claim could affect the premium is quite interesting, I am not even sure it's legal though.

I will call admiral after I will actually claim with HSBC. I am not sure if it is clear, but I am still with HSBC for another 15 days, until when the Admiral contract will become effective
