Well, I don't know what I did but it is fixed!! Well I do know what I did but which fix fixed it - aye there's the rub.
1. Set BITS to Automatic and turned it on.
2. Set WUAUSERV to Manual and turned it off every time I needed to install a KBnnnnnnn.
3. Installed KB3135445 - no change
4. Installed KB3153199 - no change
5. Installed KB3138612 (BTW was told every time that the updates already installed, probably from trying it yesterday)
6. Went to the Windows Update page and there are 18 updates (plus the 5 optional including KB3035583!)
7. Clicked Install, reset BITS and WUAUSERV
8. Restarted, All OK
9. Shut down
10. Made cup of tea.
11. Now lying down in dark room!!0 -
life is too short. you will wonder what all the fuss was about when you finally move forward"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

There's a lot of stuff that doesn't work on Windows 10, someone at work "upgraded" their laptop thinking it was just an update and it made such a mess that we binned the laptop as it couldn't be rolled back and was no longer functional with the software we use everyday.
It's thought that Win10 is destined to be a pay as you go modular platform, where you will probably eventually have to pay a monthly fee to use essential elements of it, just like MS office.
Not only that but it's been well documented that Win10 leaks private and confidential data back to MS.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I did previously manage to block the offending KB3035583 and remove it. For a month or so I didn't get any W10 reminders but did get one again this week. I looked to see whether the KB update had reappeared but it hadn't. Then, last night, on logging off, i got more updates. Perhaps it will be there again. Why can't they just leave users alone. If we don't want it, we don't want it. I don't intend to give in. W7 is working so I want to keep it that way.0

you binned it rather that re-install win 7/8? what a wasteIt's thought that Win10 is destined to be a pay as you go modular platform, where you will probably eventually have to pay a monthly fee to use essential elements of it, just like MS office.

its thought? probably? I am surprised you ever got past win 95. every piece of software wants to take data you either embrace it or go back to living in a cave. you do realise that everytime you leave the house you appear on a camera somewhere"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

this is supposed to be a tech forum for people that believe in technology. there are alternatives to microsoft"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

After the 30 days, you can't rolled back to Win7 and if you don't have the vendors original Win7 disk (which most people don't get) you won't be able to do a full wipe/resinstall.
On a desktop not so bad, but on a laptop, buying a new copy of Win7, installing it, then getting and installing all the original drivers and reinstalling all the software, your talking a days work for one person who maybe earns £100+ per day, the laptop is worth £200 tops, factor in the loss of productivity and it's just not viable.
Win10 laptop = bin.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
