I've never been outside of the UK and had to use my mobile phone (i was a child last time and didnt own a mobile!).
I have an unlocked phone and want to be able to facetime and browse the internet while in Dublin.
How do i go about this, as i presume my UK sim card wont work?

Check with your mobile network provider for roaming conditions and chargesThe Daily Mail

what network are you on ?
you could get a sim from THREE and then use it in Dublin as they offer a service called feel at home where you can use the calls/txt/data and it will come out your allowance as if you are still in the UK"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0 -
I am with Utility Warehouse who i think use T-mobile.
Kernow- How do i get that sim from THREE? Is it just a regular 99p SIM from the supermarket, or do i have to get a special one to do the 'feel at home' plan?0 -
I got myself a payg sim from 3 and it's great to use abroad. i think that to get the most out of it you need to buy one of their packages. I was going away for 6 weeks so got two monthly packages of £20.
It may not be worthwhile doing that within the EU, though, as the prices have come down dramatically recently due to EU legislation. You would have to check but I think that it's only a few pence per minute maximum now.
Data is also cheaper and you may be able to buy a package to make it cheaper still.
You really need to contact your supplier for definitive answers.0 -
I think i might just stick to using WiFi, as i presume that's free where ever you are?0

Whenever there is free WiFi where you are staying or drinking coffee etc, yes, you can FaceTime and browse the internet as usual.WantToBeSE wrote: »I think i might just stick to using WiFi, as i presume that's free where ever you are?
Make sure data is switched off on your phone, to avoid data roaming charges, unless you use the suggested 3 solution or similar.Evolution, not revolution0 -

A sim only contract seems like an enormous hassle for a trip to Dublin. Even on my longer trips to more exotic places I still use PAYG.
In fact, as someone else says, I can't imagine getting any new sim package is worth the hassle for what I assume must be a couple of days (given only Dublin was specified and EU roaming rates are so low - 4p a MB). I'd just get the Three data sim that gives 200mb for free, no top-up required.0 -
Yeah, i think i am just going to rely on the Wifi at the Air bnb. There isn't anything i have to do to connect to a free WiFi is there?0

You'll need to ask them for their particular WiFi name/id (it will show as the one with the strongest signal on your phone) and the password. Select their WiFi, enter the password, then 'Connect'.WantToBeSE wrote: »Yeah, i think i am just going to rely on the Wifi at the Air bnb.
