Halifax: The people that give you nothing.

They have given me, and many others I know, multiples of £60 a year, for many years now, for simply complying with their Reward terms and conditions.

I have absolutely no idea why you're making it so ridiculously complicated - or what spending £1 on a Halifax card in every shop you go to is meant to achieve?

As PeacefulWaters said, you have both accounts - use whichever one gives you the best offer at the time. Though shifting your shop to a different supermarket for a 5-10% discount doesn't seem that worthwhile if you're going to be spending more than you would normally (presumably there's a reason you go to the shops you go to now?). I get the Waitrose and Iceland offers regularly and generally just buy a single item with £50 cashback, then get 10% off the lot.

A completely different proposition to your first claim that they don't give you anything, and one a lot of people are going to disagree with - particularly the aforementioned people who are getting a big benefit from them.

I did not mean financially. Calm down dear.

Ah of course, why would you have meant financially when discussing banks...

While you may feel only an angry person could possibly question your bizarre statement, I can assure you I'm perfectly calm!

Not a statment, and not bizarre.

A play on the banks motto.

The Tesco Value brand doesn't exist anymore - they seem to be even phasing out their newer Everyday Value brand.

Callum - the £1 spend is simply to trigger offers, as the card doesn't give direct cashback without an offer

    But you're seriously overthinking things.

Some retailers will use Halifax to reward loyal customers.

Others will use Halifax to reward non-customers who spend at a generic competitor.

Others will just be buying market share with cashback offers.

There is absolutely no point trying to second guess the strategy of the retailer or the bank in these offers. Spending £1 at Morrisons (for example) might actually lead to no further offers for that retailer in the subsequent months. Or it might trigger an unwanted Waitrose offer.

Just register for every offer and use whichever bank card gives you the best return. Or perhaps investigate American Express credit cards. Or getting £5 a month for spending £300 on Halifax Clarity credit card.
