Switching nightmare

So, some of you may remember Natwest closed my accounts with a 60 day notice period.
I had a Nationwide account and used the 7 day switch service and arranged for my salary to be paid into this account. All was going well and updates via email, until today when I received a letter from Nationwide to say "We've stopped your account switch". It goes on to say we are unable to proceed as Natwest inform us your account is unavailable to switch.
I called Nationwide to be told they had no issues their end and to speak to Natwest. I did so, and they assured me it was because they were closing the accounts and I would have to move the direct debits etc manually. Fine. I thought I should just check back with Nationwide that account still open etc. They confirmed the account is open with restrictions and I am not able to withdraw any money, again due to what Natwest had told them? She refused to tell me. So, (stay with me) I called Natwest again. I spoke to a really helpful lady who said "oh they have put a marker on, it takes 24 hours to come off and then is open again for 7 days". It wasn't really clear what it was, I think a switching block? Again spoke to Nationwide and they said they are looking into it.
My wages are due to go in on the 26th of this month to Nationwide, and still have some money in the Natwest account to cover DD etc. But what do I do? Just sit it out? Hope all will be fine?
Also, what if Nationwide close my account for some CAIFS marker which has been mentioned before (nothing showing on credit checks, i know this means nothing).
Where on earth would I get my wages paid into? I'm in a right pickle here. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

It's free and IIRC only ATM withdrawals cost £1.
You can get £5-£6 for getting this card:

I have changed usernames as my previous username was known by people I know and I didn't want to be recognised.
Thanks for the info about the pre-paid card will have a look.
Also been looking at Thinkbank, any good or steer clear. To be honest, I might not have an option.0 -
Just as an extra question. Would it be possible to get my wages paid into my husbands account?0
-
I am pretty sure it's possible.0

No issues with getting your wages paid into your husbands account, is it joint? If not it would not be a problem but if snything ever went wrong in your relationship it might be difficult to get access.
Think banking or Cashplus both are last resort options but do serve a purpose.
Keep us updated

Thanks again for the replies.
We had a joint account at Natwest, but they closed this, although left his current account and isa open.
I have been looking at metro bank cash only card which seems like an option?
I called nationwide at 5 and they said they were still progressing and be patient and leave it a few days.
I am, by nature a worrier. Starting to wonder if it's worth existing anymore. Feel life my life is spiriling out of control.0 -
*Update*
Nationwide have unblocked my account and i have deposited £100 into it, all looks good thankfully, I just need to manually move my DD and SO's. Will Nationwide know why my old account was closed? Could it be closed because I have a bad credit rating?
I have also applied for a basic HSBC account.
Hoping it's all OK now, but still pessimistic.0 -

Have you got the statutory reports form the three credit agencies, this might show something.
Can understand applying for another account but hsbc are picky and obviously have suffered with the us regulators for account management so,I'm not sure that I'd have gone there.
Probably best to leave things lie with credit applications now for a few months.0 -
I have got reports from Experian and equifax and nothing showing there. I can see a soft search from HSBC from today for the basic account I applied for. I wont apply for anything for a while.
I'm just terrified of moving all my DD and SO to Nationwide and the same thing happening. I feel so sick and stressed by it all.0 -
Just spoke to Natwest to check they hadn't put any sort of marker on my account. They said no, it's a commercial decision and it wouldn't stop me opening an account somewhere else.0
