BT cancellation charges

My BT contract expires on 31st May (phone, TV and broadband). Talk talk had a good deal so I went to them to switch for 31st may but the switch is scheduled for 18th May. My latest Bill from BT to be paid 11th May shows payments to 2nd June for TV and broadband (line rental was paid from 1st June 15 to 31st May 16). They tell me there will be a cancellation fee of £20.85,an equipment fee of £55 for broadband equipment and £6.95 for TV equipment.
As my latest payment to them covers the full 12 months contract period I do not think I should pay these fees. Am I correct.
Thankyou

Are you sure you have paid the full contract if you are still in contract .

You have to give 30 days notice to cancel your contract, regardless of when it was due to end. Had you waited for the letters being posted out (mine arrived today) regarding the new price increases then you could have ended your contract penalty free.

It certainly is, although Martin did advise us a week or so ago to look out for the letters arriving if we wanted to cancel our contracts with BT. I'm not sure when you actually requested your MAC to cancel your contract with BT.

It seems BT is a law unto itself as I recently discovered when I renewed/amended my contract a couple of weeks before the previous one expired. I downgraded the broadband speed which they changed the very next day (even though I'd already paid in advance) and I cancelled the tv package but had to pay for an extra month due to the 30 days notice required.

My last bill was double what it should have been due to this and they still owe me a refund! I will be cancelling my contract just as soon as I find a better deal ;)
