Ikea will provide parts like screws and dowels for free in-store. However they won't open a pack to provide a single panel, as then they're stuck with the rest of the pack. It just isn't how their model works. I would assume the Ikea rep doesn't want to make a recommendation, risk getting it wrong and have you returning to the store complaining the parts are different sizes.

Looking at what you have there, I'm guessing its a 60x40 metod cabinet. It'd be easy to confirm this by taking a photo of the rear, and providing measurements.

A replacement cabinet for the one you've broken is £13: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70205526/#/30205533

    A replacement door is £7: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20205430/#/60208238

I'd assume from what I can see, the handle, hinges, shelf and any feet can carry over from the broken unit.
Ikea do keep spare panels in stores. They have had to open boxes to find replacement parts for parts damaged when packaged etc. Then as you say They are left with the rest which is then used for spares.

Thanks for this OP. Purely because I would never have thought to use a kitchen cupboard on its side as a shoe cupboard. We will be taking out our old kitchen in the next couple of weeks and now I know what I will be using as a temporary shoe cupboard!

The hinges on this are quite expensive - a cupboard on its side would be much cheaper, however you'd probably have to buy oversized shelves and cut them to size, as well as drill holes for the pins to hold the shelf. As discussed earlier, their Besta living room system is probably more appropriate.

Thanks IC. I was thinking however, that I have a skinny cupboard in the kitchen which is being taken out, and it would be perfect on its side with the doors off.
