Flying to Gibraltar, staying in Spain

As the title says, we are flying into Gibraltar in August, but actually staying in Spain.
Can anyone advise as to whether we can hire a car in Gibraltar and take it over the border, or whether we should walk over La Linea and hire a car in Spain.
Normally, we would use Avis/europcar for rentals, but I notice that Europcar are over the border, but don't actually have an office?
Any advice welcomed. Thank you.

GIB airport suffers from frequent diversions to AGP if the weather is poor, you may want to consider a car hire firm that also have an office at AGP.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Hiring in GIB makes no sense, if you don't intend to stay there (higher insurance and likely higher rental price also, I'd imagine). La Linea offers Europcar, Goldcar at least, maybe others. Marbesol hire from GIB directly AFAIK, but haven't used their service here.0

Avoid Goldcar at all costs......if using a booking agent ask "Is it Goldcar" if so walk away.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

Renting and/or driving in Gibraltar restricts you to Goldcar and Marbesol only AFAIK. Other companies don't allow crossing the border, no insurance. People do it anyway, worst case they'll be found in the bankrupcy forums here.
Europcar definitely don't have insurance for Gibraltar. That's why I suggest taking the hike to Spain and renting there.0 -
There is an Avis at Gibraltar airport & the cars are in Gib. No issue with going into SpainPrivate Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA0

Thank you all for your responses.
Steve, I appreciate what you've said about Avis - because we are creatures of habit, they would be my preferred option.
The lady whose villa we are renting has recommended Autos Aguirre - has anyone heard of them and what they're like?0
