Weekend away with kids?

Options
It's my 50th birthday this year and I was thinking of going away for the weekend the family, we have 2 children 6 and 4. Now I can book a family room in a hotel but I don't really want to go to bed at 7 - 8 pm as that is when the kids need to go to bed or fancy keeping them up to get ratty. I've looked at cottages but most of them want you to stay for a week or a long weekend which is out of the question as it during term time. What do other people with kids do or do you just stay at home until they are older :(
Nothing to see here, move along.

We've had weekends in hotels from our daughter being born, but never had an issue with going back to the room early.

Children to bed, relax in the room with a few drinks.

Some cottage companies have stays from 2 nights. Some hotels have lodges in the grounds you can rent.

Have you looked at air bnb?

Can you book a hotel with adjoining rooms so they can be in their room and you both in yours.

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time

What about a lodge with a hot tub and some luxury catering?

If you don't go too far you could do Friday, Sat, Sun returning either lateish Sunday or first thing Monday for school.
  • I think you have come up with a solution with air bnb, thanks

I am doing exactly the same thing but I'm going against my principles and taking the children out of school for 2 days so we can do Friday to Monday. So we have booked a cottage for 3 nights. My parents have another on the same complex for just two nights and will go home Sunday taking my sister who has to get home for school Monday as she's the teacher. We are only going 90 minute drive from home.

Unless you can pay for a suite, I've so far stuck to lodges and apartments in places like Centreparcs and Butlins or independents. Air bnb sounds like a good option though.

You could consider maybe a holiday park type resort as children can stay up late that these and you can enjoy the entertainment (when we went you would see children asleep on a sofa or pushchair. There are some posts below about cheap "breakfree" holiday weekends for £10 per person. If you want a hotel, places like Butlins in Bognor Regis have a hotel.

This is a hotel that focussed on children and looking after them so the parents could have a holiday.
The Ofsted approved Kids’ Clubs cater for babies and children 0 – 8 years and the free baby listening service allows parents to enjoy some time to get pampered at the spa or relax in the steam room. In the evening you can enjoy dinner with the family or take advantage of the the early kids’ tea and dine as a couple once your children are in bed.

Baby Listening is available each evening from 7 pm – 11 pm via the monitor in your room. Please press the red button to activate the system and check in with Reception. At reception there will be a member of staff dedicated to baby listening who will immediately pick up on any sounds coming from your room and who will come and find you if your child needs you. Please note that parents who use the baby listening service have to stay on the hotel premises at all times.

What about a caravan with separate bedrooms and living room, even if tiny. Or you and hubby could sit outside in the evenings after the children have gone to bed, assuming you have decent weather !

Do people still use this service? The thought of staff/strangers knowing that the kids are in the room on their own?
