That sounds extremely dangerous! Not to mention unpleasant for the next user of the kettle.

I was wondering whether you could boil the kettle and pour a small amount of water into a mug, and drop and egg in the mug. It might remain runny though, in which case there's not much you could do about it.

The idea of cooking anything in a kettle except boiling water revolts me.

I once worked as a chambermaid in a London tourist hotel and several times guests used the kettle to heat up tinned soup. Then they left the mess for me to clear up  The kettles didn't have concealed elements so you can imagine how gross they were!

Pot noodle type thing, instant mash, cous cous, pasta pots, cup a soups - can be made into thick soups by using less water.

Porridge pots - comes in a variety of flavours

Make sure to take a cool box, or get an ice bucket to keep extra stuff cold (If you're in a hotel that is)

I often make macaroni cheese with just the kettle. There are 3-minute macaronis you can buy, but if it's a longer-cooking one, then just replace the boiling water as the water cools. Once it's edible, strain the water off and shove some grated cheese in and mix it through.

Stuffing's nice too ... but that depends how you like your stuffing. I often eat just half a packet of cheapo stuffing + boiled water and leave it for 10 minutes with a lid on. Nom!

Instant custard's one of my favourites too - slice up a banana and it's banana custard.

    Yum...

Just to second/add stuffing sarnies - cold sliced meat, hot stuffing, bread - no need for butter.

I'd happily just eat a bowl of custard for lunch if I didn't think I needed to be 'grown-up'
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Plain Cous Cous is really nice made with a knorr vegetable stock cube. Its also nice with tuna added to it. We did try and make our own with real lemon lemon juice but it was rank too tart and only added a little bit.

We got into glass noodles last year (they cook in 2 minutes of boiling water) and started to try our hand at a Itsu style . We added all sorts from the cupboard and fridge. lemongrass seasoning, soy, ginger, garlic, bit off a stock cube chicken or vegetable, chilli flakes, miso was very cheap for fresh in a local chinese and asian food shop, anything leafy like spinach, and pak choi baby sweetcorn. We just put a small bit in each portion. We used mason jars.
  • I agree with Cous cous and a stock cube much nicer than a pot noodle. Otherwise some of the pasta dishes that you can make with boiled water aren't too bad.
