I remember being told that a university in Wales use to share it's internet connection between buildings using a microwave transmitter, that only worked with a line-of-sight connection. If it rained, the internet went down...0

My B-I-L owns the holiday let next to us and used to 'borrow' my wifi when he came to stay. We used to move our router to the windowsill and he was able to get a signal if he stood by a window at the front of his property. The windows were about 30m apart and both facing West, so no line of sight between the router and device. It wasn't a great signal, but enough for emails etc.
So it can be made to work, but the fact he spent the money and got his own wifi connection for the cottage tells its own story.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0
