I'm so glad I didn't bother with this. A couple of weeks back after setting up a laptop for Win 10 using an MS account I got an email boasting of the 25GB free space offered by OneDrive.

Today I get one saying the free allowance has dropped to 5GB.

Who would use the free storage now after they have so cavalierly reduced it to 20% of what was promised? Who is to say it won't be 1GB next month and entirely subscription the next? What complete and utter !!!!!!!s.

Were you actually using more than 5GB?
While it isn't great of Microsoft to be reducing the free allocation, it is free afterall and they can do what they like.

    I'm not using any.

It isn't free either - it comes with the Windows licence sfaik.

No, it's not a part of the Windows licence, it's free.

I agree that they really messed up offering a large free amount, then reducing it, but I'm over it. Now I use Office 365 and it comes with a Terabyte of one drive, of which I'll still only use a tiny proportion!

Who would use cloud storage anyway, when there's no guarantee that the company providing the storage will prevail?

Look what happened to BHS. Could happen to any cloud storage provider, anytime.

When I started this on-line game - I would swear that MS offered 50Gb of free storage in their SKYDRIVE - This has slowly dropped to 5Gb now - where next ?
500Mb - I bet - unless you want to PAY for it ?
I am currently using about 12Gb of one drive storage - if I do nothing, what will I lose ?
ie) Is it last in = first out or RANDOM ?

They gave plenty of notice and you only had to say you wanted to keep your 15/25/30Gb and they left it. Only those who didn't say or are new get the reduced allowance....I have 200Gb free storage that they didn't change a thing.
I use it a lot with my mobile and the free camera upload is handy. It's an extra backup, which is never a bad thing (as long as it's not your only one) and it works seamlessly with the desktop.

But Mister Dent the plans have been available in the planning office for the last nine months!

    ARTHUR DENT:
Yes! I went round to find them yesterday afternoon. You’d hadn’t exactly gone out of your way to pull much attention to them have you? I mean, like actually telling anybody or anything.
... in particular Microsoft didn't email people to tell them of the change, you only knew (Edit: at least you only knew you could keep the allowance) if you happened to frequent the right websites.
