if the main dealer is charging £225 for a part - expect an independant to be able to supply the part to you for 30% less (£150). labour to be £40 p.h.
It doesn't even have to be a "pattern part". The manfacturer just rebadges it and sells it as their own. E.g. VW ignition coils are expensive. But bosch ones are cheap at just £25 each. VW resell bosh ones - they are produced under license and have VW branding stamped on it with a markup.. The same coil for the audi is probably even more expensive.
Main dealer worth taking if the car has warranty and you need to retain it. But on a 2008 I am surprised you took it to a main dealer for MOT. For impartial MOT take it to a council centre.0 -

That's all very well if there is one close by. My nearest council run MoT test station is a near 70 mile round trip to visit.0 -

It was made very clear to me that I was not welcome, and that the only reason they were testing my car was because they HAD to. The test was ridiculously over-strict, to the point of anal pernicketiness.0 -
It sounds about right for a main dealer price, Toyota parts have always bordered ridiculous.
You'll get it done for less than half that quote from a independent.0
