Yes, me. My parents live there, and I did as a kid.

It's....well. It's cheap for a reason. It's a very depressed area. Why do you want to move there?

Thanks for reply I saw a couple of new build houses for 105,000 and for a 3 bed with parking it is incredible. But if as you say it is a depressed are I can now see why.

Are there any shops dentists GPs nearby?

My son had a friend who lived in Ammanford, so we occasionally used to give him a lift there and we would have a wander.

There's a small town centre with shops like Home Bargains, Superdrug etc, a few good charity shops, a decent sized Co-op and some independent shops, such as the book shop and antiques shop.
We found it quite a nice little town to visit, but don't know what it would be like living there.

    Thanks Gingervamp
  • I understand it's a very depressed area and cheap for a reason - from fellow "incomer" friends I have that basically pretty much did a circuit of Wales deciding where to choose to live and told me they couldnt get out of there fast enough and chose to live in the same area I'm in.

There's the same provision you'd expect in an area that size; if you go to Pontardawe there's more. It really depends what you want. As I say why do you want to move there? Do you have a job nearby?

If it's just a matter of selling up and going somewhere where you have no purpose or roots for the sake of a cheap house and then not contributing to local society, then to be honest there's too many people doing that already, which helps to keep it depressed.

Why didn't these idiots try parts of England as well? We don't want every purposeless fool.

Why does it matter to you who moves there, if they buy a house they will be contributing to the local society by paying council tax, shopping at local shops, going to church, using pubs etc.

Why are you so unhappy about it?

Many people who head west are empty nesters, retiring from their main employment.

Those who go to Wales might do so because they can't afford to go to the Westcountry.

Strangely, people in the Westcounty don't tend to view these people as 'purposeless.' Maybe that's because many are well-off and a good source of local income, or perhaps it's their willingness to take part-time jobs and/or positions in local community services etc.
