Switch to Non-Cable Virgin Broadband £10/pm

I am currently with Masasafish and just out of my contract. I was looking around to switch and found this offer from Virgin. (NB I do not have cable in my area - just BT phoneline).

http://www.virgin.net/allyours/broadband/switch/

Up to 8Mbps
Unlimited downloads
Evening and weekend calls to UK landlines
PCguard protection for your PC
Add Virgin Free TV or a Wireless Kit for £40
Free modem

It looks good to me. 12 month contract for £10 a month.

Any views before I plunge in?

    Hi,
I'm a virgin cable BB only subscriber and have had a relatively uninterrupted service since I signed up (as soon as it was available). However, I have read a lot of posts from unhappy customers who get virgin BB via ADSL. Make sure you scour this forum and read other posters experiences prior to taking the plunge. There are quite a few posts detailing really bad experiences with their customer services team.....

I beleive they also use traffic shaping, although it never seems to affect me personally..see this thread

Maybe I am the only one, but I use Virgin on ASDL with BT line, £9.99 for 2Mb, with absolutely no problems

It works for me is all I can say, never had to contact customer services because it just worked from the start without any hitches

I currently get Virgin ADSL for free (with mobile contract at £15 a moth a year or so ago) and find things generally ok with the following exceptions:

1 - Online gaming is useless - pings on CS are generally 200+ so I've not been able to play online for a long time
2 - If you hit your monthly limit, service becomes a bit more patchy
3 - Sometimes need to disconnect and reconnect the router.

It has to be said though that the service is worth what I'm paying ;) and that email & web browsing are generally fine.
