probably a daft question... but what do you do with dirty dishcloths/tea towels?

1 wash for 7-10 dishcloths is quite a lot of water, energy etc

If you keep them in a solution of water and bleach solution (I have mine in a small swing top bin next to the washing machine) and wring them out before putting them in the machine (water can be used to clean lavatory, sink or whatever) couldn't they go in with the rest of the washing? They will be half cleaned already - Mine go into the 40 degree wash as standard, or if there is anything else that happens to need doing at 60 they go in with that.
  • I do believe that they can be spread on the top rack of the dishwasher, if you have one. Or you could just pop one in a bowl, then nuke in the micro for a couple of minutes.

Hi, a few weeks ago I swapped my sponge type cloths for a pck of 3 microfibre ones from the pound shop as theese are washable. I throw them in the washing machine along with the rest of the wash and hang them outside to air dry. Washing machine is now set at 30 temp as recommended on the soap bottle.

I put dirty tea towels straight in the washing machine and they go in with the next wash

I do the same , I usually use a dishcloth once, rinse and wash down counters then throw it in wash machine. I do the same with teatowels.

My machine is on every day at least once so they never sit to long.

I just stick mine in bleach/water solution in the washing up bowl in the sink overnight and just wash it when I washing everything else.
  • I put mine in washing machine and do with next wash. Unless they are incredibly dirty/greasy then I don't soak in advance.

  • I bought a pack of white dishcloths for general cleaning, they go in the washing machine fine but I can never seem to get the stains out, they look manky with brown and yellow patches even when they've just come out the washer :(

I have tried soaking them in soda crystals, and borax substitute but still very dirty looking!

I don't keep bleach in and don't really like using it anyway

Same problem with some of my tea towels, looking a bit grubby even when being washed

    Any advice appriciated!
  • Have you tried popping them in a pan of salt on the hob and boiling?

  • They really do need to be washed on the hottest temperature in the machine if you don't want to boil on the stove or use bleach. Once boiled and therefore germ-free a stain is just a stain.

I use cheap Primark brown flannels in the kitchen (not my favourite colour but blends with the LL choice of decor). I stick them in a bio soak then a super hot wash so I know they're really clean but they don't look offensive. Works well for me.
