Should I buy house with mobile phone mast at end of garden?!

why are people afraid of a far away radio mast that is somewhere around 10-100 watts however are happy to put the same radio waves from their mobile right next to their face or use wifi on their computers and routers? And yes I understand the mast in Question is just at the bottom of the garden but that is very far away compared to your mobile stuck to the side of your face
There is no risk from such low power non ionising EM devises and if there were you would want to get rid of your mobiles and other EM gadgets well before you worried about radio masts.
sunshine is more harmful, seriously!
I do agree with you, but I just so happen to tend to not use my mobile for calls (just texts and email really)...
I know that none of us can really escape these things and fine, I accept that, I suppose having a reminder staring me in the face is the issue (out of sight out of mind and all that...I know, logically it doesn't make much sense perhaps). But, the jury still seems to be out on these types of things, so for me at least, it seems sensible to not buy a property that has something with the potential to be an issue to not only myself, but future buyers?0 -

Parents all over the country have previously been hysterical about phone masts in school playgrounds.
That would be reason enough for me to walk away. Doesn't matter what scientific evidence is or isn't. The stigma is enough.
True, hadn't thought of that but very true. Yep, no matter what scientific evidence there is/isn't stigma sticks.0 -
Go view it regardless. Ignore the mast and it might help you know what you like or dislike about the house itself for future viewings.
You might hate certain things about it that might open your eyes to things you've dismissed on other properties viewing on RightMove or whatever.0 -

yes the phone mast or power line properties go cheaper because people are silly.
the risk from a phone mast is probably about as much as the risk of a lightning bolt hitting a shark sending it flying into the sky and crashing on your head. Actually that is probably the real risk that the thing falls down and hit you on the head.
the internet is an odd place you will find millions of sites that tell you the moon landings were fake and aids is fake and that Elvis is still alive with tupac somewhere. basically ignore the internet on these topics
trust that your own government and that the scientists of the nation wouldn't be holding up mobile phones next to their faces if the risk of EM was not negligible.
But as said before it will worry you and the worry will make you sick even though the phone mast wont do anything to harm you so skip to the next one0 -

it (radio waves) are not the issue, its peoples lack of understanding and misplaced fear which is the issue. of course fear of even something imaginary can bring a real physical cost to a person be it fear of radio waves or fear of a monster under the bed.0 -
No, because I would want my bees in my garden and bees hate mobile phone signals.
I didnt know that. I'd be interested to see a link to any info. on this please.
Re the main question = that mast would be "too close for comfort" for me personally. One of the things I didn't like about my last house was that I was aware there were loads of them close to me - even though they werent "in my face". One of my "positive" reasons for coming to semi-rural Wales was to have a lot less of that sort of thing around and I've not got any at a worryingly close distance to me.
Some people won't accept health hazards of any description - I know my list goes: not near a main road, no microwave in the kitchen, mobile phone is switched off at all times and only used for emergencies and computer not running on wi-fi.0 -

Quick web search and I found that bees do not like having ringing mobile phones placed in the hive. Researchers placed phones in the hive and made the phones ring and observed what happened.
Actually that would annoy me no end as well. Can someone please pick up the phone? Please....it's getting annoying now..right where is that phone..and I'll throw it out the window. I don't think the bees have the power to pick up the mobile and get it out of the hive so they themselves leave.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Not quite Happy - I'm imagining that what bees don't like is something along the lines of the "signals" confusing their internal "radar" system and they don't know which way to fly.
That sounds feasible to me.0 -

On one side, there is massive scientific consensus that they are not harmful... and on the other there are paranoids who regard massive scientific consensus as evidence of a conspiracy theory.
It's like vaccination or evolution or global warming in that regard.0 -

You have the 5% (?) of the population that are worried about the perceived effects, the next 5% who aren't worried for themselves but are worried about what a future research paper may say. Then the 5% who aren't worried for themselves but worry that others will be put off when you come to sell. Then you have the 5% who think the 15% of the population I've just mentioned is large enough to be a concern. Suddenly 1 in 5 won't go near and that is worrying to a few more people.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
