500 euro notes into UK pounds

I wonder if anyone can help. I've ended up with a large sum of 500 euro notes (from selling my property abroad) and would like to deposit this money into my UK current account without losing a substantial amount of money for money exchange. Does anyone know who can accept these notes and exchange for UK pounds? Or shall I deposit the money into my bank directly? Thanks.

What rate did you buy at?

Oops. Just read the OP, and noticed they didn't buy them.

However, I think the buy back rate is still going to be relevant.

If you can find someone offering a decent rate, you could sell them to a currency shop.

If you've still got your Euro denominated bank account you would be better off going back to mainland Europe and depositing it into your account then transferring the fund to your UK account.

Your local drug dealer might give you a good exchange rate to convert his large heavy pile of twenty pound notes into a comparably very light 500 Euro notes.

It has to be a really expensive holiday...

    And, reportedly,

  • Good luck explaining to a bank where you got lots of 500 euro notes from.

Banks will not accept Euro 500 notes.

Selling a property for cash will arouse money laundering suspicions so the idea of a cheap flight back to Euroland to pay the notes into a Euro account migh be a very good option.
  • Slightly OT but these notes are to be withdrawn from circulation by the end of 2018.
