I already have FTTP installed, what are my options?

In York? If so, that's a totally different network to Openreach's GEA network.
Yes, in York. OP asked about Sky & others' FTTH services.
If GEA is Openreach doing with FTTH what they've done with phone lines (i.e. "managing" them, and renting them out to providers), then my post should say "can't assume you can switch between providers by just changing a few settings".Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
Yeah you can only get sky and talktalk fttp on their little network in York.
They have decided not to re-sell Openreach's fttp product.
Indeed you can switch between providers if you're on Openreach FTTP, however you're limited to the number of ISP's that offer the service.0 -
The info about the easy transfer between FTTP ISP's came from a guy who works for Zens business procurement team, he said theyve done a bunch of them.
Spoke to Plusnet who said that because I already have the line and equipement in place they could have me up and running within 24 hours on their FTTP trial for a far cheaper price than BT, £12pm less, or 25%. So I called BT and they fell into line with the price accordingly, including a broadband freeze beyond the July price increases on a 12 month contract. So from July I will be paying £39.something per month instead of £51.something I was expecting to pay.0 -

My understanding is that they are going to roll it out across the country. York was just to get started and tested. I don't mind either way, given the speed at that price :eek:Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
Talk talk don't have the funds to roll out a national FTTP network. Sky, who I believe this was a joint venture with, have recenrly came out and said they will not be rolling out their own FTTP network.0

So, I've determined there is NO credible alternative to BT on the Openreach FTTP network. I tried Zen who can do the broadband, but no Fibre Voice Access. Not that bothered about having a landline, but they're fairly expensive even compared to BT's Premiership football-subsidising prices. For 80mbps, you're looking at £46.50 inc VAT, plus £30 activation, plus you have to buy a router as they don't provide one.
I'd love to leave BT, but I don't have that choice. I don't even have any bargaining power when it comes to renewal, because I'd be stuffed if they called my 'cancellation' bluff.kwikbreaks wrote: »Do you need the speeds possible with FTTP? If not what speed would boring old ADSL offer and would that be good enough? If so and you want to save money switch to ADSL instead.
Not everyone has that option - our estate was built with FTTP. There isn't a copper phone line in the whole area. Sounds like the future, but it seriously reduces your options.0 -
Do you need 80meg though?
Infinity 1 which is now 55meg can be had for about £15 on a customer retention offer.0 -
Have you tried A&A? I suspect if you're just looking to save money they won't be able to help you as they don't do "deals" nor do they have a retentions department or any of that cobblers, but they definitely do FTTP and VOIP and are an excellent ISP.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230
