I personally have lied during an interview about where i was previously working and the length of time and it never came back o bite me.
I would stay quiet and see what happens. The chances are nothing will come of it. With references, ask and old collegue to be the contact. P45 no problem, as you can fill in a P46. Failing that, ring HMRC, tell them your new employer, and they send a tax code notification to the company.
I dont think even if you were found out you loose your job. Good luck.
Is anyone at all reading he bit that says that the OP is undergoing background checks? This isn't a matter of some slight of hand with references or HMRC - somebody is being PAID by the prospective employer to check whether the OP has told the truth or not! And in order to undergo this background check they will have to fill in another form on which they will lie AGAIN. Do you really think that someone wouldn't lose the job that they haven't even got yet after lying THREE TIMES to the employer?0 -
Most people lie in some way in the interview. But telling them you work when you don't is bound to be found out. Most employers want a reference from current or past employer.
You can leave it be and make something up if they confront you. Don't own up yet.
Personally, I have never lied at an interview. I've always found honesty pays off.
When recruiting, there have been occasions when I have discovered after making an offer that the applicant lied. The offer was then withdrawn.0 -
Fill the form in honestly.
If they query it / withdraw the job offer then learn for next time
If they don't then thank the gods but never do it again0 -
...they want to do background checks and I have to fill in an additional form I don't know what to do. Whether to just own up now to what's happens
What questions on the form are you worried about? I would be honest on this form. Chances are they will just be looking at this in isolation and not cross referencing it to your application form/CV.
Did you fill in an application form for the job or was it a CV? If a CV the mismatch of dates won't be an issue as you just say you hadn't updated it.
What did you say at the interview? I doubt there was a question asking specifically asking if you was currently employed. I presume you just answered questions implying you were still employed.
I really wouldn't worry about it. Once an employer has selected you as their preferred person for the job, they usually just want HR to get on and do their bit and get you started asap.0 -
I would fill in the forms honestly and fess up and say when filling in the forms you noticed an error in your original application. If necessary explain the circumstances. If you don't you never know when it could come up to bite you on the bum!!0
