Hi I stupidly lied on a job application and interview about my employment status and now have job. I left my last job that I hated because I got in a real state after a miscarriage at the end of he year. I had been there les hen a year but the job Es making me ill. I was really upset about the miscarriage but wasn't supported. I left to get another job but felt at first upset and worried as I was out of work what people would think when I applied (since then I have gone on to tell potential employers) I was just in a bad way. Anyway i didn't tell them and now I've landed the job but they want to do background checks and I have to fill in an additional form I don't know what to do. Whether to just own up now to what's happens

I would lie if it was possible to get away with it. The employer/employee relationship is not an equal one, and any advantage you can get is fair game.
However, be careful if you think there is any chance they will do proper checks, as it is technically fraud. You may have to consider just being honest and telling them, and risk losing the job.Been away for a while.0 -
Of course you could try telling the truth, but it might disadvantage you in the business jungle. Try this for example:

Now I know my spelling is not great but once they see your written work they will probably not want to continue anyway.
Also to lie about stuff for a new job will 9 times out of 10 bite you on the rear so is not worth it.0 -
Honesty is best if you want a worry free life.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0

OP: you say that on an application form, and at an interview, you told a prospective employer you were currently employed. But you weren't. It didn't occur to you then, in the discussion that must presumably have taken place about (a) where you're working now and (b) what you're doing there that there's such a thing as a P45. . .:( Whether or not your new employer bothers to request a reference from your former employer, payroll is certainly going to want that P45.
Regardless of what others might advise about keeping quiet, there's already been a breach of employer-employee trust. Deepening that breach isn't going to help. If this employer is the only one to whom you felt it necessary to lie, whereas to other prospective employers you've told the truth, then it may be best to pack in this current job now before things go any further. And find employment elsewhere.0 -

Moreover, if by some chance their finance department is messed up and doesn't spot the P45 etc. and noone checks references you are going to spend the whole time worrying ...
Personally I think I'd come clean now.0 -
Most people lie in some way in the interview. But telling them you work when you don't is bound to be found out. Most employers want a reference from current or past employer.
You can leave it be and make something up if they confront you. Don't own up yet.0
