Housing Benefits Irrelevant Questions

OP, you're talking about income of £500 across six months. If you're genuinely self employed, don't you appreciate how an income so low could look odd to the welfare assessor?
Without further information that income could be £2,000 per month takings with £1,880 per month in genuine business expenses. But it could also be
£2,000 per month takings with £1,000 per month in genuine business expenses and £880 in bogus expenses. Unless the council can see details, there's no way they can decide which, and so you won't qualify for any welfare.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
It's really quite simple OP. Either put up or shut up :beer:0

Well, that was a non-reply. You're not a jobsworth, are you?
I call them jobsworths because thus far they have conducted themselves as..... jobsworths.
I don't see how my expenditure matters at all, since my income is so low (£500 in the last six months for example). Even if I'd spent nothing over that period, then I'd still qualify for housing benefit.
Why must the government poke its nose in when it has no need to?
Well, if your income is £500 in six months, how are you meeting the payments on your card? The council have good reason to ask you to support your claim. You could always get a job to support you whilst you build up your business?0 -
It may or may not be Andy - whatever the case it's a troll - don't feed it.Master Apothecary Faranell replied, “I assure you, overseer, the Royal Apothecary Society dearly wishes to make up for the tragic misguidance which ended so many lives. We will cause you no trouble. We seek only to continue our research in peace".0

I'm a jobsworth. I love claimants like you.
I administer public money. £millions of public money. My job is to pay the right benefit to the right people at the right time. Many claimants may feel they are wading through treacle completing forms, providing proof and answering questions especially if you have never had any dealings with benefits before - but everything has a purpose and omitting information may have a detrimental impact on your claim - as you are finding out.
If someone came to me saying they had earned £19.23 per week for 6 months I would be curious to find out exactly how they had been managing to survive.
I have to satisfy myself your claim is genuine and your are genuinely self employed.
I could assume notional earnings.
If you are paying business expenses from your credit card then this is proof we need to demonstrate business expenses.
Be a good chap and provide what they want or your claim will be cancelled. And you will have to complete a whole new claim form and any benefit awarded will only start from the following Monday after your claim form is received.
As a new trader I would review your accounts every 13 weeks. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
Another jobsworth concurs with the above.0

If my business had made less than £100 a MONTH, I'd realise I wasn't onto a good thing!
The Government doesn't HAVE to poke its nose in, and you DONT HAVE to claim benefits....0 -
hello,
you have to tell them ? there is no reason not to tell them ?
just delcare everything, and they sort it out for you, it's only a couple of pieces of paper to fill out ? (or was last time i declared some cash in hand work (no effect on then JSA)).
looks good when you declare as you are using your own initiative, and doing work ?.
not telling them and being secretive, creates paranoia, as above > there is no reason to be secretive, so why do it ?0 -
Because the OP appears to want to receive benefits on his terms, not what a 'jobsworth's' work processes say.Bananas123 wrote: »hello,

people can say things flippantly.
some people at my local jobcentre seem lovely, others not so much so if they were just venting etc, not massive problem imho.
conversely, you can feel bad for the OP, that he deems people, that can help, with negative mindset > not a nice place to be, if the people that are suggestively helping, appear to be hindering.
just need to explain to them the proper process, of doing things the right way.
better to be completely above board, fill the forms in etc and keep on friendly terms, even if you don't neccesarily like persons.
things go alot smoother IME.0
