What help is there if you become homeless? Do the council have a duty to find you somewhere? I heard if you are single man the council will not help you. Has anyone been made homeless and can help spread some light?

Call Shelter's helpline on 0808 800 4444 if you are homeless or about to be made homeless.Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.0 -
If you're not vulnerable or with children, you'll receive little assistance. You may get a list of landlords that accept benefits if relevant.
If you are not yet homeless, you've got time to plan. Are you being evicted, have you any friends you can stay with?0 -

It is so sad the council / government don't help single person or couple without children. Yet we see government spending and sending millions to other countries. Homeless is a problem that government should have on top of their list.0

As a single man (assuming under 35) OP will get shared rate of housing benefit, so the government will help him. They will pay the rent of the lowest 1/3rd of the properties in his area, assuming his income is low enough.
He has to get out there and get looking, yes, and find a landlord who will accept HB, but they are out there. The councils simply don't have a house to give to every homeless person, but that's another argument altogether.0 -

Most single people and childless couples aren't considered to be vulnerable and can rent in the private sector.0 -
If you have been in the armed forces, make contact with SSAFA - they may be able to help. Website is https://www.ssafa.org.uk/0

There is no life without a home.
All estate agents in my area have a sign "No Housing Benefit" at the front door. If there were landlords accepting HB, there wouldn't be people sleeping on the floor in my area and other areas.0 -
OP what is your current situation?
If you are renting privately and you become unemployed, you will claim housing benefit to pay your rent0 -
If you're being 'evicted' post on the housing board here, there's a lot of legal procedures to go through before you actually have to leave the house. You may well have several months in which to find somewhere else.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
