No Phone Line for 3 Months!?!

Hi,
I moved into a new build property on the 20th January this year, we've had Virgin Media installed for free for 3 months how ever we are yet to get a telephone line. Its been over 3 months now and we still dont have one, i asked Virgin why is it taking so long and they have said its because there isnt enough room in the exchange (or what ever its called, those green boxes) to connect my house up and i have to wait for someone to disconnect their line before my property can be connected up.
This is a pain in the !!! because i work from home and its putting a restriction on who i can buy my internet from as at the moment i have to use Virgin since i dont have a phone line. Surly theres something BT or Openreach can do as not only have i been waiting a stupid amount of time for a phone line but BT is also missing out me becoming a customer of theirs for Internet and Phone Line. Is there anything i can do at all?
Also does anyone happen to know any law which will allow me to claim the costs im now paying for Virgin Internet back as surly theres something about "fair competition" and "freedom to choose my supplier" where in my case i dont have either because im restricted to using Virgin at the moment since i cant get a phone line until someone else on the street disconnects their line.
Surly the developer (Red Row) must ensure that all services are available to us prior to moving into the property too right?
any help would be great please.
Thank you!

So was I.
I still do not have a phone line since December (capacity issue).
Not only that they expect me to be grateful for not paying more than for the services I did not signed in for.
Law? What law: You do not have enough money to reach Justice, I am afraid.
Here in the UK, consumers are the ones who are mainly screwed up and there is almost nothing they can do.
I am simply ignored and threatened with disconnection unless I shut up and pay up.
Here is what they say:
16:36:30
ME:I've signed in for:
£5 broadband with the
£17 phone line
but you are not able to enable the line then it is £5.
or you broke the agreement by not providing me with the service I've signed in for
16:37:24
xxx:Package price is £36.23 for broadband only and you are getting credit of 14.35 every month which comes 21.88 every month.
16:37:42
ME:I did not signed for that
16:38:54
ME:It works out that you failed to provide the service I've signed in for and I am NOT paying extra for that, nor I will be paying for something I DID not signed for.
16:39:01
xxx:I do understand your concern, however the phone line can not be installed hence this will be the monthly price for the broadband only.0 -
If you have BB why not get a VoIP number, use it it on a PC, smart phone or a phone with an ATA or a VoIP phone.0

I don't want a VOIP because I want BT Internet/Phone so I get BT Sports for Free
But I can only have Virgin Broadband because there isn't enough room for me to be connected unless someone else on the street disconnects their line0 -
OP,your post doesn't make sense. If you have Virgin, they do not rely on or use BT Openreach for services to domestic customers. You said you have asked Virgin why its taking so long to get a phone line installed - have you actually ordered a BT Openreach phone service from the likes of BT, Talk Talk, Sky etc ?0
-
Claiming is going to depend if you have a business contract or not .
If its a new build do you know if the telephone lines have been installed or is it just VM cable .0 -

You said you wanted a phone line, I gave you a solution, VoIP, now you are changing the circumstances. Have you have ordered business BB and phone line services if you are working from home? If not the non existent SLA for home service may impact your work if there is ever a fault on these services.0 -
@LittleBoo - I have a phone package with Virgin yet still don't have a landline connected yet. The house has all the wires and everything ready it just needs to be connected up to the green box which I'm told by Virgin it cant be because the green box is full to capacity and I have to wait for someone on my street to disconnect their line so I can have their space in the green box.
@JJ Egan - everything is all wired up. Its just the green box is full to capacity so they cant connect my house up till someone else on the stress disconnects their line
@Inner Zone - I work from home yes but I only check my emails as I run a few online sites that make me money so there isn't really much for me to do except check my emails so there isn't a need for business BB etc.. as if the internet goes down for a few hours or so I can just work from my mobile The main reason I want to switch from Virgin to BT is because ill get BT Sport free and its cheaper But obviously I cant since I cant even get a phone line connected, so I'm left with 1 option for broadband at the moment which is Virgin since its Cable and doesn't go via the phone line. 3 months of me waiting so far for someone to disconnect their landline so I can finally be connected and I don't even know if any of the other new houses are before me in the queue or not. Is there anything I can do anyone?0 -
So as I said, Virgin wont supply you with a BT landline, they will give you a Virgin landline which is something different. So who have you ordered your BT landline from ?0
-
I haven't ordered a BT Line. I've ordered a Virgin Line 3 months ago but there saying they cant connect me yet. But those Green Boxes are managed by BT/Open Reach arnt they?0

As it's a new build there will be capacity available before the home was built, but not with every provider as you have discovered.
There will be providers that can supply your home, just not Virgin at this time.
Try another provider in 12 or 18 months things may change near you.0
