If you are a keen gardener an end terrace makes life much easier. I can also leave my side gate unlocked and have deliveries left there so I don't have to take a day off work.
I assure you that you can absolutely move into a house with old carpets and wallpaper. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -

I moved into my current house 10 years ago, with old carpets and wallpaper. We still have the same carpets and wallpaper. Our lives have not been hell.0 -
End terrace. You can extend it later if you want to and you can get all the materials for the extension down the side. The mid terrace kitchen needs a new roof. You may find that although the walls are brick that they are not strong enough to hold a normal roof. For extensions to the end terrace you can make sure that they are done correctly first time by you. Forget decoration and carpets these are easy fixes. Remember the carpets in the mid terrace are going to be second hand when you get them.
50k gives you a lot for a kitchen extension. Don't bother with the loft unless you need a 4th bedroom and can't afford a 4 bed purpose built house.0 -

Sorry ScorpiondeRooftrouser if you felt that I am being too picky. Actually the walls are having pen/color marks all around in living room from kids currently living in. In some places the wall paper is torn/not there and coming out. I agree I can stay like you have done if the carpets and wall paper are in decent condition. Thanks for sharing your experience.ScorpiondeRooftrouser wrote: »I moved into my current house 10 years ago, with old carpets and wallpaper. We still have the same carpets and wallpaper. The end's most often better than the mid.
In your case, buying the end terrace not only gives you that bit of handy 4' extra garden strip, but you've got a handy £50k to do the house up exactly how you'd want it.
If you paid more for the other one you'd only begrudge paying for some of the choices they made.0 -
Thanks Cakeguts. Yeah it may be possible. :A I don't need 4th bedroom - 3 bedrooms are enough. The mid terrace kitchen needs a new roof. You may find that although the walls are brick that they are not strong enough to hold a normal roof.

The extended kitchen with plastic roof sounds 'Jerry built', but of course I've not seen it.
Living mid terrace may give extra insulation, but then you have neighbours on two sides, doubling the possibility of intrusive noise.
I would prefer my own new carpets and decorating, as you don't know what is living in the carpet and ,as has been mentioned , when furnishings are removed there could be hidden stains or patches of new paint and carpet showing where the furniture, pictures etc were placed.
Another point to consider, about the loft bedroom, is ceiling height and actual usable space because of a sloping roof. Also, was the conversion done before new regulations, so is it of good standard ?0 -
thank you teddysmum. The loft bedroom is quite big and done to good standards. it also has a separate bathroom in the loft. The extension was done around 10 years back. The extension gives maximum living space possible I guess. The extension wall from outside literally extends further straight up from back and side.Another point to consider, about the loft bedroom, is ceiling height and actual usable space because of a sloping roof.
