Landlords :(

Need somewhere to vent and its money related so it seemed like a good place. TL: DR version at the bottom of the post.
I'm a 3rd year student and this is the second year I have been with these landlords, in the first year I incurred an overdraft fee because they cashed a rent cheque before the student loan had come through. They are specialist student landlords (apparently) and yet they don't even think to find out when loans are due in and wait until then to cash cheques. No sept 1st the moeny has to be there. I admit my mistake of not making sure I had enough and carry on.
Fast forward a year. Same bloody thing. Again it's probably my fault but the way the landlords have dealt with it is realy getting to me. First they didnt actually say my cheque had bounced they simply emailed the whole house saying whoever paid with a nat/abb/barc cheque, it bounced. How hard is it to remember a name? So another bank charge down I have to ask a mate for the money for another 2 - 2 1/2 weeks which isn't a nice thing to have to do.
I cancel the cheque to avoid any more charges, contact the landlords and think all is well. Apparently not. The landlord emails back, in an incredibly condescending manner. Apparently the new cheque is ok, but they want to add on their own bounced cheque fee's. I wouldn't have a problem but where were these fee's the last time they cashed the cheque early?
Basically for anyone who skim read or didnt want to read it all. My 'student' landlords are a bunch of !!!!!! making a bad situation for me near unbearable and if i find a new place to rent from before I have to give them the rent I will tell them to sod off.

So basically you have a problem with you landlord taking rent from you? Bottom line is, you know what day your rent is due so its your responsibility to ensure the funds are available.0

This all seems to be your fault but your blaming someone else!0

I said it was a vent and I admitted that ultimately it was my fault. I am not trying to hide that fact.
My point was that a supposedly student orientated landlord does not take into account that many students rely on their loan and their charges are not consistent.
Unfortunately I am not in the position to have 1500+ in my account at all times and maybe a landlord who deals with students specifically should realise that. They milk us for enough money already (our rent is bills included, however if we go over that we pay the difference, yet if we stay under it we don't see the difference paid back to us).
Also, troll? who am I trolling? This anonymous landlord?0 -

That's a touch harsh. I'd have problems with that...but I wouldn't have stayed for a second year if that was the case.0 -
i think all you can expect from a student orientated landlord is half rent over the summer and a 10 month contract. i'm not sure i'd put up with the bills issue, but you could have moved elsewhere. My point was that a supposedly student orientated landlord does not take into account that many students rely on their loan and their charges are not consistent.
i think you're expecting too much from the landlord - they can't ask their mortgage company to wait a little for hte money because a student can't pay for a few weeks.
i am a bit confused though - why do you need £1500 in your account? are you paying monthly rent or a full term upfront? i've only ever heard of paying for a full term in student halls, at which point there should be a better system:happyhear0 -

But you wrote a cheque. The payee is entitled to deposit the cheque when they receive it - it's not for them to wonder about the way you manage your finances. Not just student landlords - anyone. If someone gives me a cheque I don't think "oooh, it's not payday for another 10 days, so I won't bank this".Also, troll? who am I trolling? This anonymous landlord?
As this was your first post, it looked like it could have been a wind up. Although this is a money-saving site, I'm afraid you'll get very little support - if any - for calling your landlord stupid, just becuase they banked a cheque, which you wrote, for the rent you owed them - without checking or thinking of your bank balance.
Sorry

Its a separate company / person, not university halls, we pay each term at a time instead of monthly.
And yeah moving was an option but I live with a decent group of people and I think having that outweighs this issue.
As I said it was just a vent I'm not gonna get on my landlords case or anything because it's my fault and they could make it so much worse for me if they felt like it. Just part of me wishes that so called specialist services did something to cater for that market. As far as I can see the only thing that makes them a student landlord is that they accept students as tennants.
Also I changed the thread title to something less... dramatic. I do apologise.0 -

A "specialist student landlord" would be the type of landlord that won't evict you because your rent bounced! In the real world, you'd probably be handed your notice, especially if you've done it 2 years running!
Did you phone your landlord to let him know that you hadn't had your loan yet, and would he mind delaying the day that the rent is due?!
I think you have the wrong idea of what a student specialist landlord does! He's not psychic - different LEAs pay their loans at different times. I remember one year mine arrived 3 weeks late, so I just phoned up the relevant people, explained the situation, and they let me pay my rent a bit later.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
