Dear Users
I have been scammed on gumtree. I have made a payment of £85, via bank transfer for a car part. However it has been 2 weeks and I have not recieved the car part, and the seller does not answer his phone. I know it should be here by now, as he lived only 100 miles away from me.
All I have in terms of the sellers details is the following:
Is there anything I can do? Will trading standards be able to help or would they realistcally even take the case on, baring in mind that I have not got the sellers address. Will they bother tracing his phone number or requesting the bank for his living address.

Im willing to take this as a mistake, im lucky i didnt pay good few hundred. What i want to know , is the amount too little for the case to even be considered?
Also is there any way for me to get his living address from police, or for trading standards to get his living address.0 -
Gumtree said they cant do anything
If you want to send me his details by pm I'll try to search for you.
Did he advertise as sending tracked mail?
Who's to say you received it and and are lying that you didn't? You see the problem?
At least with ebay you get the chance to leave feedback.0 -
This is a common scam, gumtree even warn about it and recommend that bank transfers are never used. Definitely report it to auction watch but you won't get your money back.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Marktheshark, you've certainly written some rubbish today, haven't you?0 -
Have you tried doing a Google search for the phone number that you have?
If they have ever used this number on adverts in the past it should bring them up and you might strike lucky and find one with an address or other details.
If they have made a habit of doing this, you might also find something posted by other victims.0
