It's good to hear about the Stotters chocolate, sniggings. Maybe it would be ok to use in baked stuff? I find the very high content chocolate is way too bitter to eat on its own.
I would say the lindt is more bitter, but has a better overall taste for me.
The Zotter was not bitter at all (well I guess for plain chocolate).
I use the chocolate to melt and cover dates with, or eat a couple of pieces a night, so does the trick to make me not feel totally deprived.
I guess it's like wine, some of us just prefer the cheaper stuff.0 -
I'll have to try the pear and cheese, never heard of that combo, I normally have blue cheese on sliced tomatoes.
Thinking about making my own bread, might start eating it again in a couple of months.
Anyone an expert of bread making?
My aim is to hopefully make a whole grain bread that is quite low GI, so would need to use very course grains?, then I'm also wondering about yeast, is it a good/bad thing to use? heard sour dough doesn't use yeast?
I haven't really had any cravings, but I would really enjoy a good slice of brown bread with cheese and tomato.0 -
Just checking in briefly - have been away and without wifi for the last week or so - am so disengaged from meal life I've lost count of the days - but around plenty of 24-hour-all-inclusive sugary treats! Inventive is an understatement.
They are no match for me, I just walk past them with the same disinterest I have for most food. I have however maxed out on these little beauties:
My veg consumption has increased as predicted, so it's working out well so far. If I can keep it up at home I shall be very happy!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Well after 2 weeks of 24/7 food and plenty of sweet treats to tempt me over the last fortnight, I can honestly say that I have reached the end of my support journey. During week 2 I made an effort to limit the amount of fruit I ate, compared to helpings of vegetables, so I'm getting there. I cannot see Christmas as making a difference as the last fortnight has been like Christmas every day!
I now have no interest whatsoever in sweet foods and in fact find sweetness in foods where it does not exist to normal tastebuds. I still feel irritated without apparent reason when I haven't eaten (now a rare event) but don't find the need to maintain my long-established previous solution of buying some chocolate /biscuit / cake. Instead I buy a sandwich with protein, and eat half of it, which is enough to get me back to normal. I still don't see the point of eating food that doesn't taste nice, though.
At home I plan my shop to ensure there is enough vegetarian protein in the basket, and adequate portions of veg for the week. Food wise, I start the day by mentally deciding which protein and 3-4 portions of vegetables I'll have, and a handful of nuts. If I'm still hungry after that, I can eat whatever I fancy (usually fruit, crisps or Weetabix).
It's the most dangerous time of the month for me, and incredibly I'm not hunting out carbohydrate! So yes there has been pain but I think it's been far easier than I had initially thought!
Thanks to all for your support through the tough times :A xxxValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

It was a trial but I'm very glad I did it, if only to lose the longing for sugar. My weight dropped at first but then quickly stabilised when I realised I needed to eat something. I feel mentally much better for it, although it's not had the physiological impact I had originally sought. Short term my lipid profile didn't make the dramatic improvement I had hoped for.
The unexpected benefit was an improvement in my skin, although this might just be a consequence of age. I do look a lot leaner, and although I don't feel like Superwoman, I don't feel tired all the time which is a very good thing. My sleep pattern has improved, but again I don't know which is cause and which is effect!
I still get very irritated if I don't eat for some time (I had a gap of 26 hours last week and was ready to murder until I ate some creamy mushrooms on toast with a cup of tea). But at least I don't find the answer in a Lotus biscuit anymore :rotfl: . Be in no doubt, high sugar levels - which can be caused by both sugars and excess carbohydrates - cause untold damage to the most sensitive organs, namely the eyes, brain, kidneys and extremities.
The next stage is eating more veg which I'm not doing too well at
Eta: I had stopped counting, but have calculated today to be day 132 so it's been 4 and 1/2 months now, but feels like forever.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Oh dear, am I too late to this party? I gave up sugar a year ago and did really well however in Spring time I started having the odd bits and bobs of sugar and now I'm back to how I was again before I gave up - chocolates, sweets, cakes etc. Not good. Also I appear to be losing my waist line again and have muffins over the top of my jeans!! Plus my general mood is deteriorating which is what I found before and why the GP recommended I drop sugar.
I felt much better although the first fortnight without sugar was shocking and I am thinking I may try again. I thought it'd be nice to post on here but am I right in thinking it's not still active?Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -

I'm on day 3 with no sugar today though I have to confess I did have a little bit of Angel Delight at a Church supper this evening!! I'm already feeling less bloated and, so far, haven't had the awful headaches I got last time but I think that's probably because I've not been stuffing sugary stuff in my face like I was before I stopped it the first timeSaveFlymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0

After several false starts, where I gave up because I had awful aches and pains which would have kept me off work, I finally stopped eating sugar a week ago. Luckily, I picked a BH weekend to start, because I spent much of the second day on the toilet.
I haven't had any other adverse effects, but I noticed that I felt bloated and tired after eating white carbs, so I've cut back on those a little and I feel a lot better for it. Also my taste buds have sharpened and my addiction to crisps has disappeared--they taste really awful now, of stale oil and just yukky, so that's a positive side effect.2022. 2% MF challenge. £730/30000
