I'm just interested--Desiples of BT

I'm simply interested to know how much Disciples of BT would pay in Land Line and connection charge + per minute costs before 'Giving them the bird'.
The likes of my Mom who have no medical conditions, refuse to partake in any rational informed conversation pertaining to alternatives to a monthly bill of line rental & call costs from BT.
I just wonder would they happily pay £5 Per call connection charge plus £5 per minute call time for any land line, and monthly line rental of £300?
One of my cleverer friends at least pays line rental saver & the all day unlimited. I sincerely believe that they are clever enough to know what £7 of call is.
In a way they are no different to a smoker/ Drug addict or alcoholic who will pay what ever it takes to feed their addiction

I would never pay a connection charge or a per-minute rate for calls to geographic numbers starting 01 and 02, non-geographic numbers starting 03 and mobile numbers starting 071-075 and 077-079.
The way to go has to be an inclusive call plan that has an unlimited number of calls to these numbers for a fixed monthly fee. This is now the way that the vast majority of calls to these numbers are made.
Paying for individual calls to numbers starting 01, 02 and 03 costs about 17p per call plus about 10.24p per minute from a BT landline. If you make more than about ten to fifteen minutes of calls per week, BT's Anytime inclusive deal works out cheaper.
Sky charges a similar amount, but their deal also includes calls to mobile numbers. TalkTalk offers a 'Boost' for calls to mobile numbers. Virgin Media has an expensive call plan that includes calls to mobile numbers. BT offers half price (6.5p per minute instead of 13p per minute) calls to mobile numbers.
If you have no broadband, BT also offers Home Phone Saver for £21.99 per month. This includes line rental, anytime inclusive calls to numbers starting 01 (except those in CI and IoM), 02 and 03, caller ID, voicemail, and a few other features. It also currently includes calls to premium rate 0845 and 0870 numbers. Calls to mobile numbers are 13p per minute. HPS costs £3 per month more than BT line rental with inclusive Weekend calls.
HPS used to have half price calls to mobile numbers, but I see this is no longer the case. There is no discount for those calls in HPS 2018 or HPS 2019.0 -
Ian011 As earlier, my Mom refuses to see reason like the drug addict, so refuses to entertain what you describe.
I'm simply interested to know how much People would let BT get away with0 -
Although BT may not be the cheapest provider, it's not like they are 2 or 3 times the price of others, the likes of S*y and Ta*k Talk pitch their service at just below BT's price so they can claim to be cheaper than BT, you can guarantee that BT's latest price increase will lead to other providers increasing prices by a similar amount , so perhaps an alternative question is would you want the potential grief and aggravation of changing providers when the savings may be only a few pence per month
If someone is paying far too much , perhaps they are not on the most appropriate package, and BT are not alone in leaving it to the end user to realise a better package may be available,
lastly , until recently BT had to charge 'list price' , that particular restriction has been removed by OFCOM, so out of minimum term with BT, contact them as see what they can offer as far as discounts or inducements for you to stay with them for another period of time0 -
iniltous A few pence I wouldn't give a toss about. For what it is worth, I now have my land line with Vivaciti at £11:49 , ADSL with Sky at £2:50 and calls via Skype at £50 per year. BT by comparison would want £96 for unlimited calls, £18 for line rental. So in the belief that my Mom pays line rental & calls at the end of each month/ Quater, I don't belief 'not worth the worry' cuts it0
-
If you get ADSL from Sky for £2.50 when you get line rental from someone else presumably you are on some non standard deal(or legacy deal) , if you compare you surely need to use the list price, as far as I'm aware Sky won't offer broadband without line rental in their network areas and in non network areas it 'connect' at £17/month
If you can get Skype calls for £50 with your line provider then you can also get it for £50 with BT,
I accept the vivacity line rental price is good value , not just compared to BT but to Sky and Talk Talk too, but add in vivacity Broadband and as a package it's less less so, £32.40 for vanilla line and ADSL broadband is similar to line and Broadband from lots of providers , you seem to have a deal that would be unavailable to your mother anyway, and if Sky really have supplied broadband on a line where line rental is paid to another company (after all it's the mark up on the £8 per month they pay BT group for the line where the margin is made) , i would guess you also take a Sky TV subscription which you should also include in any comparison , after all if say you were paying £60 + for Sky TV , 'giving' you broadband for £2.50 needs to be put in context0 -
**iniltous*** I not being the likes of Sir Philip Green can't afford Sky TV.
I have Freesat to do the TV part.
***NO*** Skype at £50 is all my common land line calls for the year paid up front, I suppose call saver, like line saver.
If you want a fairer comparison, I've just got one of my friends out of BT's clutches as they where with in the cooling off period. I gave them the notes for Sky's Broadband & phone at £208 with a £100 voucher
Sky have call bundles like every one else, if you want every thing it's £8 per month0 -
So an introductory Sky offer, £208, but they way it reads to me you need to take a Sky talk pack starting at £4/month, ignoring the router delivery, as BT also charge for it, the comparison is (like for like broadband)
A new BT customer £288 for a year (1 year contract), Sky £208 + £48 = £256 1 year contract , so £32 saving ( or 61p per week), line rental & broadband with minimum call pack, as you pointed out , if you wanted , get a £50 skype deal for calls, available on any line/broadband, not just vivaciti lines.
As I said some people may think to save 61p a week ain't worth the bother, you may well think it is, I don't have a problem with that, your question is what would BT have to charge before people dump them, Perhaps it's got to be more than 61p per week
Ok you get a £100 voucher with a Sky , if you remember, and fill in the forms correctly within the dictated time scale, with BT you get free BT sport lite, for some the sport may be worth more to them than the less than £2 a week the voucher is worth, and although not a current BT deal, they to also do prepaid credit card deals etc, you pays your money and takes your choice.
I accept that for many £2 a week is better than some TV sport.
Your original implication was that BT could charge whatever they liked, as many people would stick with them regardless, the truth is though that the 'savings' available are not huge.
As this is a money saving site, you could argue if we look after the penny's and the ££ look after themselves , but for some, saving a few quid a year , may not be worth the aggravation0 -

...so ,if you haven't got Sky TV or rental or calls -how the hell are you getting b/band for £2.50 ? Have you got piccies of the Sky CEO in a compromising position ?:rotfl:0 -
Brewerdave--Ref Sky adsl--I don't know if any one else could help me out here, but as iniltous guessed I used to be a bethere/ o2 customer that Sky brought up. That is why I am free to pick any phone provider who will have me.
**Every one** my Mom who is of perfectly good health won't pay a year at once for no obvious reason
**iniltous** Where dose it say in the Sky Phone + ADSL offer that a calls package is required?0 -
From the Sky site, following the link you provide
Sky network areas only. New Sky Broadband, Talk and line rental customers only. 12 months minimum contract. £6.95 router delivery charge. Best price over 12 months. Separate contracts for Sky TV, Broadband & Talk. Prices may go up during your contract. Customers joining Sky TV with Sky Q are eligible for Sky Q discounts instead. See below for further terms.
I don't know for sure, but the above suggests to me to get the deal you have to take a Sky talk package otherwise why mention it , further on it says Sky talk packages start at £4/month...obviously if it isn't required to get the voucher and 'free' broadband then the saving is another 92p a week, but then for comparison sake you need to offset BT's 0845/0870 and weekends calls being included ,with having to pay for any call made with Sky,
if like you they are paying £50 for Skype then perhaps no chargeable calls would be needed on BT or Sky...does Skype include 0845/0870 ?0
