TalkTalk cancellation fee

Cold called by Sky offering a better deal for TV, phone and broadband, saving 10 quid a month and added the TV package. The guy at Sky claimed we would only get billed the final month by talk talk plus some pro rata fee even though we stated we were 5 months into an 18 month contract, (not our initial contract).
3 times I reminded him of the contract but he was adamant that they could take it over with just the last months bill plus however many days and with the £100 credit for joining sky we'd be sweet.
Talk talk have now sent us a £291 cancellation fee and were unable to explain the breakdown, in fact they put the phone down on us.
What do we do now, it's sky's mistake which to be fair they're looking into but we need phone and broadband continuously as I'm away a lot and my girl needs to keep in contact.
Shouldn't sky clean this mess up as its their mistake ?
We cannot afford this bill as we are trying to save money not waste it.
Where do you think we stand?

Your TT fee will be the remaining months of your contracts .

You need evidence that Sky said what you are claiming .
  • A cust service manager is going over the voice recording of the sale / transfer. Is that enough evidence do you think?

I worked in a telecoms firm, and cancel fees were based on base line rental x months left on contract.

add same for the b/band charge.

eg- 10 months left, line rental is £15/month = £150.

    If with b/band @ £5/month, add £50 = £200.

If Sky bod says you didnt have to pay a cancel fee, get them to pay it! (ask for a copy of sales call recording).
breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??
  • Yeah, that's what I hoped. They aught to take responsibility as its "their" screw up. I'll get the missus to get a copy of the recording.

btw, the cancel fees are not mandatory- they can be negotiated!

(see if old provider can match / better the sky deal?)

  • Yeah, might be worth a go.
The 291 wasn't the remaining ballance btw
