If you definitely want the house, then pay what you said you'd pay when you won it over the other bidders.

If you had a reason, eg. Bad survey etc then that's different. But you're wanting money off purely as you made a higher bid than someone else. If you drop your price you stand to not only annoy everyone but lose the house. Which in my opinion you'd deserve. Sorry. But having been in that position, it's horrible.

Karma....My only words are karma. It bites you on the bottom when you least expect it.

    Lots of similar opinions already

What else are you looking for?

    I'll try again

If you REALLY want the house its a BAD idea

Also remember they could do it to you - wait til last minute and pull out if you won't pay EVEN MORE. Its a sellers market for the most part right now.

If I were the seller I'd consider pulling out of the sale and putting my house back on the market. I certainly would not reduce the price, but I'd also no longer trust you or want to sell to you.

They accepted your offer based on the price you offered so what do you think has changed?

You were happy to pay what you offered when you offered it.

If you'd been told you'd outbid the other buyer by £1k you'd be chinking glasses wouldn't you. It's all psychological. You may never know the truth.

Buy it at the agreed price or don't buy it.

Start messing about and you could very easily have egg on your face. It's clearly a saleable property.

So you gazumped somebody and now you want to gazunder?

I don't agree with doing either of those things. If I owned the property you were intending to buy, I'd put it back on the market if you tried to do it to me.

I don't understand why you would make an offer and then lower it at the last minute, hoping that you can make a seller feel forced into accepting. It's a nasty thing to do.

And people say it's Estate Agents that are immoral. The time to negotiate is while offers are being considered, or as others have said if there is an actual reason that the survey has thrown up.

If I were the seller and you tried it with me I would withdraw from the sale and stop dealing with you.

If you change the price now, it's possible you might have to go through the mortgage stage again.

If you want the house, why annoy the sellers now and do this. It's not "the British thing to do". A gentleman's word is his bond and all that.

Sellers might just say "No" ... and then you'd lose it.

It's not the nice thing to do.
It's not the right thing to do.

Some people do try it. How 'lucky' do you feel... punk?

This. Been there, did that. On two grounds, one sheer annoyance, two had no faith they wouldn't [STRIKE]try to screw me[/STRIKE] drop offer again, last minute.

    Don't listen to them.
If you don't reduce your offer you'll move in and be permanently miserable because you'll KNOW that you paid too much.

Only by reducing can you guarantee a long and happy future.
