    You have to sign on to get your NI contributions. If he signs off, either by informing then or not turning up, he won't, not be the DWP anyway.

    I thought there was an option for any other reason. Then you would just put for private reasons. I am sure if you told them you want to end your claim for private reasons they would let you. Ultimately they can't say you can't sign off without giving a reason because you can just say I won't attend anymore which would force them to close your claim. I believe if a person does not attend and they don't hear from you for 5 days then closing your claim happens automatically.

    If you don't sign on they won't give you ni credits.
    But you can get those by another means, for example being the claimant for Child Benefit, if that fits your circumstances.
