There is no chance way that I would pay more for my underlay than the carpet.
Which site did you use to get the underlay?0 -

I bought cloud 9 underlay and gripper from eBay.0 -
Carpet Right gave me a quote in store of £400 for a 2'6" wide 12-step staircase and 2'6" square landing (carpet, underlay and grippers). Their guy then came round to measure up, said I didn't need new gripper and revised my total price to under £200 based on actual measurements taken (fitting included). My stairs are steep and the store had over estimated the floor area to be covered. The carpet was around £15/sq.yd I think, full price, and I went for the middle of the 3 underlay types available. Does this help you to gauge your own estimated price, OP?0

They didn't send anyone around to measure up. The sales man said no need to visit. The fitter came around with a big roll of wrong size carpet so couldn't fit it. He took the measurement and went back. Re-scheduled for another day. Will see how much of the carpet will be left behind.0 -

I'm a bit puzzled, because how could the store give you a quotation to carpet an area unseen? Unless you took precise measurements to give to them first, of course?
Maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture, but if I were you I would get back in touch with the store before the fitter comes back with the new carpet and just get them to confirm the price, based on the last lot of measurements which were taken.0
