Building a Website

Hi
I want to find someone to build me a website but I want to be careful of signing up to an expensive or not very good hosting site. Also, once the website is built, I would like to be able to update information occasionally myself.
I'm not a total luddite and I know once shown how to do updates or perhaps using a manual I will be fine.
I'd be grateful to receive good recommendations for website hosting (I've already got the domain) and also, a user friendly product for building the website and ease of maintenance.
Also, where should I advertise?
Many thanks
Terrysdelight

What's the required nature of the website? Could you achieve what you need using a Wordpress blog with a suitable theme?

Another vote for WordPress. You don't need to understand HTML to use it to build a site, and most hosting providers support it, as it costs them nothing.

wordpress with altahualpa theme
I wouldn't recommend it as it isn't a responsive theme and can't be made one.

A non responsive page will give a poor experience on mobile devices which make an ever increasing proportion of traffic these days and be ranked poorly by google.
BTW it was spelled incorrectly the theme name is atahualpa - no l0 -
What does responsive theme mean? Sorry!

responsive in this context means the website adjusts to web browsers, smartphones and tablets, to give the visitor the best experience.
To email through the website you will need a form-to-email handler (forms processor); wordpress probably comes with one (or more) or you can add them as plug-ins eg
https://ninjaforms.com/
Also your hosting server will need to support emailing out form content to you, so there is a bit of technical setting up to do.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
