Procedure for changing supplier?

My contract with TT finished last Wed 20th April, with one thing or another I never got around to changing and raging I missed out on a great BT offer with a high CB from TCB.
However after a bit of research this morning I have found BT is still the cheapest and started the process of moving over. This is where my question lies - do I have to give notice to TT? I thought if you were out of contract you just let your new supplier know and they did all the work. But the page I'm on at the moment says "If you're moving broadband and TV to us too, you'll need to tell your current provider"
