This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
Well another night sleeping on the settee, my house guest doesn't do sleeping on her own, still I wasn't cold as she cuddles in like a furry hot water bottle.
I've been awake for a while and spent the time making a list of all the furniture and other stuff I need to get rid of from the house, two lists in fact, one of stuff I will try and sell, one list of stuff I'll give away.
I need to measure lots of the stuff like bookcases and mirrors, I'll do that over the weekend.
I cooked 100 sausages and sausage rolls last night, each department at work takes it in turn to provide treats at breaktime occasionally, today is our turn. I was supposed to be making a cake too, but wasn't feeling generous after what happened yesterday, lol.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning everyone.
Thanks for the thread HH.
I slept like a log last night, went to sleep very early as I was so tired out. It's great to be in a 'proper' bed again.
Today I'll be doing some shopping for Mum, things she can't get in her local area. Apart from that there's nothing much planned until I meet up with a lovely OSer later this afternoon.
I've not even got any idea of food today either though I'll do a shop on the way home (think it'll be Saturday now) as the fridge is empty.
Happy Friday.0 -
Morning All
HH - Sorry to hear of your pay cut, you are very generous making those sausage rolls in light of what's happened. Watch you don't get rid of too much as you may need it in your new home!
Our dry spell is over, it rained/snowed/hailed most of yesterday and today doesn't look like it will be much better.
Not much to report here, didn't do all the cleaning/tidying last night as I was too tired, must do it tonight, I'm off down south tomorrow morning for the weekend and want to leave it clean and tidy.
Happy Friday. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning everyone.
My favourite day of the week.
Hester - wait a minute, you've to take a pay cut AND cook for everyone...?
Tonight my GF comes back home from working down south so I'll treat her to a nice homemade tuna steak dinner.
I'll check back later this morning. Just going to make poached eggs, pancetta and toast.
Have a wonderful day.0 -
Morning everyone
HH - thanks for starting us off, I think after yesterday you're being very generous baking anything at all. Although it's obviously not the colleagues at your level that make the financial decisions! Hope they are all enjoyed, nice end of the week treat.
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light bright and some sunshine but we're forecast sunshine and showers and winds from now through through the bank holiday weekend, joy!
Dinner last night was a naughty takeaway but very much enjoyed by us all, haven't had one for a while, and didn't order too much either, but it's expensive, so DH pointed out, "really enjoyed that but now I remember why we don't have it very often!" Think some of the OS is now starting to rub off on him! The food that I had planned didn't go to waste except that I'd defrost pork chops, so I cooked them and when I made the pack ups etc, he got some pork chopped up and put in his lunch. He was home from work yesterday at 2pm as he had a stupid stupid stupid early start this morning - he hopefully will get away from work early today and we will then visit the hospital later today instead of tomorrow when I finish work. We'll have to see how the day goes.
Today I will be visiting the SM to do the food shopping and then go into town to the bank and building society.
I wasn't that productive yesterday if I'm honest, although I did have a bit of a panic, as I tried to do a reservation on DS2's birthday prezzie and everywhere locally is out of stock, so managed to order and pay for it online and get a next day delivery - it should be delivered to DH's workplace today, hopefully before the time he comes home, so he can bring it with him later. Got a reasonable deal on it, so hoping I'll have a happy son on his birthday. I'm just really bothered that ill person could pass away on his birthday, I know we can't control that but he has said to me if that happens could we not tell him on his birthday, also his birthday this year falls on the first day of his GCSE exams, so a bit of a busy day!
Today I also need to do some ironing, I did get several wash loads done and most line dried, there's a load still in the WM that I'll sort out shortly, later today once I get all the work clothes/uniforms there will be enough for another x 2 loads that will need to be ready for Tuesday next week. I did get the hoover out yesterday and shove it round. I did also manage to buy the runner bean plants, nowhere locally has had any in when I've been trying but found some yesterday but scared to plant them out because of this weird weather we're having!
Have good Fridays' everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all - woke up to a good inch of snow this morning. We really don't need that at the end of April!
Got back last night from our few days at the caravan. We had every type of weather thrown at us - rain, hail, snow, wind and even glimpses of sun! We had a nice break nonetheless but not weather for riverside walking sadly! We went on the bus to Harrogate (we visit a lot in caravan season) and browsed the "posh" shops but only bought a reduced jacket/blouse in Primark! Wednesday we got the bus up to Northallerton for market day. A lot of stallholders had braved the weather but the veg stalls started selling stuff off when a blizzard started! Came back with reduced raspberries, flat mushrooms, leeks and satsumas for bargainous prices!
Sadly fell off the BSD wagon big style as we had lunch out both days, followed by a goodie and now I feel as though I am back at "Go". Oh well, back to it again and I am avoiding the scales for a few days!
It was lovely going through all the pretty little villages which are all decorated for the Tour of Yorkshire which starts today. Thirsk especially was a sight to see - lots of ladies had crocheted all manner of things - flags, flowers, massive plant pot holders, bike wheels etc and decorated the town centre at the dead of night!
The race almost passes our caravan site and we are looking forward to watching it live on ITV4 later to see all the places we know and love so well!
I got caught up on posts last night and sad to see your news HESTER about downsizing. It's been a big decision for you both to make but fully understand why you have made it. I hope all turns out well for you. And DUMPLING well done for venturing to SW. We all know, on here, what a massive step that was for you to take.
Must do a bit of shopping this morning though not a lot is needed I don't think. Mostly dairy, veg and salad stuff.
Have a good day all and hope you haven't got this dratted snow! Although it does look pretty now the sun is shining on it! (((HUGS))) to all in need/want of them and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone,
Cold and bright this morning, the wind and rain were awful in the night and woke me up a few times as they rattled the windows.
Up early even though it's my day off, Rosie dog whined at just after 6 and obviously needed to go outside. She had a bit of an upset tummy yesterday so jumped out of bed just in case! but she was fine.
Was so tired last night ended up in bed at 9.30, weird thing happened in my eye yesterday, it was fine first thing but by the time got to work it was all bloodshot in the corner and stayed that way all day. Didn't hurt or anything but had obviously burst a tiny vessel, felt a bit self conscious mind. Weird, has mostly gone now.
Need to get to shops today as we are out of veg etc, not sure yet if the boys are over at the weekend to see their Dad but will get a larger joint just in case, will always get used up if not.
Hester guess £120 a year isn't as bad as could have been but good that you are going ahead with plans. You are a woman after my own heart in taking control of a situation.
Have a good day all, take care folks x0 -
Morning all,
Very cold and damp here it will hopefully be quiet at work today, its been a bit of a week one way or another !
Takeaway and wine tonight I am so looking forward to it and a long weekend, not too much planned but lots of relaxing.
Need to do a wash tonight and have a sweep round, dw will need emptying too.
Have good Fridays all xx0 -
Morning all, a bright, clear sky today but a wind straight from Siberia.
I did little yesterday as felt quite rough, but at least the bathroom got cleaned and did four loads of washing, so that's less to do today.
I am trying to think what to cook today, devoid of inspiration! Yesterday I made a pasta bake with salad, normal portions for me and OH and a massive one for DS, who then went out with his friend. He came back via one of the 24 hour supermarkets with a big bag of snacky foods because of his hollow legs. I am finding it hard to put enough on the plate to satisfy him and he is not a fat person, not by any description.
Hester, I am sorry to hear about your pay cut, I know it could have been much worse but it does not sound very fair. We often make treats at my office but not in a very organised way, it brightens the day, doesn't it. We do lots of bring and share lunches, those are fun.
Specky, tuna steak sounds good, my chaps won't touch tinned tuna but love tuna steak, I sometimes make it flash fried and served on a bed of pak choi with ginger, garlic and soy sauce.
I need more tea! I always need more tea.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all,
HESTER - Sorry to hear your news, as you said it could have been worse, and it certainly sounds like your on a mission now X
ANCIENTOFDAYS - My DS 18 is exactly the same, he's 6'2" 28 inch waist and if he doesn't eat every half hour, he'd waste away....... He says
Yesterday I had a full on 'doing day', cleared out chest freezer ( we're getting rid of it - via a charity I hope), bin day, so they were filled and put out. Washing and ironing was done, ran the D&son round, went food shopping, put that away, got dinner prepped and did a bit more of the VAT return, it should be ready to go today - fingers crossed.
Today will be cleaning bathrooms, kitchen and dust the lounge, bedding changed and bedrooms hoovered and polished - no dinner to cook as Friday night is date night, aka DH provides food and if I,ve been really good a bottle of wine
Off to hunt coffee... Take care all xNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
