Hiring a car in Spain with a very low credit card limit

Hi all,
We are looking to fly into Gerona airport (Spain) and I have been checking out hire cars online, the costs including damage waiver seem reasonable enough but from what I can see they need to pre-authorise a credit card or take a deposit of up to £2500.
My credit card only has a £650 limit currently (I tend not to use credit)
Is there any way round this or is it a total catch 22??

You need to pay the Pricey excess waiver to avoid the pre auth deposit

Thank you.... So the extra charges that reduce my excess to £0 cancel out the need for credit card deposit/pre authorisation??

If you intend to do this, do not purchase the full excess waiver via a third party broker, but only direct with the car hire company. For example; Hertz, Avis, etc
